Welcome to Preschool at St. Joseph Catholic School!

I am so excited to be your child’s preschool teacher this year!

This is my sixth year at St. Joseph Catholic School and I am looking

forward to helping your child grow, and learn,

and have fun this year.

I have been a preschool teacher in Libertyville for over 25 years,

and am passionate about helping young children learn.

I believe children learn best with hands-on experiences and

help facilitate their many different learning styles

in a kind and nurturing setting.

We will have an amazing year together meeting new friends, sharing new

discoveries, and learning new skills everyday.

Our instructional aide, Mrs. Tina Truskowski, has much experience in the classroom

after being a aide at St. Joseph Catholic School for over 15 years!

Together, we help build positive relationships with children to help foster

growth and confidence in a caring classroom community.

We are both looking forward to sharing a wonderful year with your child.

Snowball Fight Letter Center! What a fun one this was! Preschoolers picked up a snowball, named the letter and produced the letter sound! They enjoyed crumpling up the snowball and throwing it at the snowman target! Combining movement with learning makes learning stick!❤️
Mitten Measurement.  Preschoolers worked together with their partner to identify and sequence numbered mittens 1-20. Using one to one, they counted how many mittens tall each friend was! This activity gave us hands-on experience using non-standards units to measure! The children then recorded results on their sheet.
Mitten Math Center was another of our multi-step centers today! Preschoolers chose a mitten, colored their recording sheet to represent it, counted the snowflakes on each, and wrote that number! Wow! Awesome skills today!
❄️Snowball Last Names❄️  had us building strength in those fine motor skills, such as that super important pincer grasp!
M is for Mickey & Minnie Mouse!
Mr. Grubb, Sasha’s Dad, came in to guide us through a directed drawing lesson today! He showed preschoolers how to combine several basic shapes to create these favorite characters! So fun! The children were so proud of their art work!
Preschool 3’s enjoyed creating their own Snowpal today! They listened and followed along with directions that included positional words such as above, on top of, below, and under. Super!
Preschool+Plus Book Club this week features selections by Jan Brett! Today we read The Hat and had fun comparing characters and events from The Mitten! (Ask your preschooler what animal was featured in both books!) They loved the comical way the animals to wear the woolens! And as with all her books, each time the reader discovers something new in her illustrations! Today I sure did!
The children followed step-by-step directions to create the adorable hedgehog from our story today! They used a variety of materials such as paint, paper, cotton balls, and toothpicks!
The Hat Process Art: Crayon Resist with Watercolors
Preschoolers created designs on their hat using white oil pastels. As they painted their hat with the watercolors, they discovered that the pastels pushed the color away! Super cool!
🦔 ❤️🦔 We learned that hedgehogs get their name because they are often found in hedges and make a grunt like a hog!
Today Preschool + Plus watched a video about hedgehogs! We discovered some cool facts about these cuties such as they each bugs and worms, are nocturnal, and are super swimmers! Who knew!
Our Special Religion Lesson this week has the children understanding how God made each of them special and unique, just like a snowflake! This week they created their own one-of-a-kind snowflake using scissors and watercolors! Preschoolers loved seeing these finished works hanging up in our hallway! ❄️💙❄️
Winter weather means breaking out the Small Toys! Geo boards are an awesome addition to this fine motor group!
