Elementary Program
The Elementary Program at St. Joseph includes kindergarten through 5th grade.
The full-day kindergarten program is designed to prepare students for first grade by using best instructional practices and aligning the curriculum with first-grade standards. The student-to-teacher ratio is 10:1, thanks to the support of a full-time instructional aide who enables differentiated instruction. First grade also benefits from a full-time aide, while second grade is supported by a part-time aide, providing additional resources in the primary grades.
Teachers in kindergarten through 5th grade use a mix of whole-group and small-group instruction to create a learning environment that is supportive, nurturing, and academically challenging. They collaborate closely to identify and implement best practices and participate in ongoing professional development. Instruction is student-centered and extends beyond textbooks, with a strong emphasis on literacy—particularly phonics, reading, and writing—as well as a robust focus on math and science. Technology, including the use of iPads, is integrated throughout the curriculum to support personalized learning.
The Catholic faith is central to the St. Joseph experience, woven throughout the K–5 curriculum and programs. It serves as the foundation for building meaningful relationships between teachers and students, as well as among students themselves.
