Welcome to Preschool at St. Joseph Catholic School!

I am so excited to be your child’s preschool teacher this year!

This is my sixth year at St. Joseph Catholic School and I am looking

forward to helping your child grow, and learn,

and have fun this year.

I have been a preschool teacher in Libertyville for over 25 years,

and am passionate about helping young children learn.

I believe children learn best with hands-on experiences and

help facilitate their many different learning styles

in a kind and nurturing setting.

We will have an amazing year together meeting new friends, sharing new

discoveries, and learning new skills everyday.

Our instructional aide, Mrs. Tina Truskowski, has much experience in the classroom

after being a aide at St. Joseph Catholic School for over 15 years!

Together, we help build positive relationships with children to help foster

growth and confidence in a caring classroom community.

We are both looking forward to sharing a wonderful year with your child.

Preschool+Plus The Mitten
Super Math Center! The children did an amazing job of working together to make mitten matches today! They identified numbers and used one to one correspondence to locate its match!
The Mitten Literacy game: The children used mitten tongs (sneaking in the fine motor work here!) to grab uppercase snowballs! They located and traced the lowercase match on their recording sheet! ❤️❄️
The Mitten: Dress a Snow Pal
Preschoolers practice subitizing skills today as we introduced a die with our math game today! ❄️
Preschool+Plus Book Club 📕
The children were introduced to Jan Brett today, and discovered that she does both the writing and illustrations of her books! Our reading of The Gingerbread Baby last month introduced us to her use of “windows” to show what happens next! Today we practiced story retelling with The Mitten to help build comprehension, oral language and vocabularyskills!
Story retelling: This adventure center gave us lots of practice with vocabulary (author, illustrator, mole, badger), sequencing events and characters in a story, use of ordinal numbers (What happened first, second…?) as well as opportunities to lay attention to special details in a book! The children cut and assembled their story strips, and colored the characters in our story!
🐇🦉 🦡 🦊 🐻
Preschoolers explored up-close photographs of individual snowflakes taken by “Snowflake” Bentley! They learned that each snowflake is unique, just like us! They used a paper-fold and scissor snipping technique to create their own unique snowflake! Fun way to develop skills in listening and following directions! Awesome fine motor practice!
Our story today, When God Made You, reminded us that God made and loves us! Preschoolers enjoyed using pipettes to add watercolor to their one-of-a-kind snowflakes! Our project inspired us to think of our own special gifts, and what helps to make us so special and unique. We look forward to exploring this more tomorrow, as well as seeing the outcome of our snowflakes creations!❄️
This group organized and played dominoes today by themselves! Cooperative play such as this is essential for getting along and working with others! ❤️
This group totally rocked it! They independently located their own last name in print today! First time we ever did it, too!
We are so excited to receive your completed Winter Challenges back this week! So proud of your hard work over Christmas Break!
