Welcome to Preschool at St. Joseph Catholic School!

I am so excited to be your child’s preschool teacher this year!

This is my ninth year at St. Joseph Catholic School and I am looking

forward to helping your child grow, and learn,

and have fun this year.

I have been a preschool teacher in Libertyville for over 25 years,

and am passionate about helping young children learn.

I believe children learn best with hands-on experiences and

help facilitate their many different learning styles

in a kind and nurturing setting.

We will have an amazing year together meeting new friends, sharing new

discoveries, and learning new skills everyday.

Our instructional aide, Mrs. Tina Truskowski, has much experience in the classroom

after being a aide at St. Joseph Catholic School for over 15 years!

Together, we help build positive relationships with children to help foster

growth and confidence in a caring classroom community.

We are both looking forward to sharing a wonderful year with your child.

Polar Express Day 🚂. Preschoolers enjoyed navigating through our 4 open centers today! They could rotate through the centers independently, with the goal of completing the 3 main ones! Jingle Bell Measuring was a fun one to practice using non-standard units, counting, one to one, and writing numbers 1-12! My favorite! Super job, preschool! 🔔
Marshmallow Math Center! We created flat shapes and fat shapes by connecting marshmallows and toothpicks! Loved hearing them use math language to name their shape such as, cube and pyramid!
Train Number Puzzle 🚂 Preschoolers practiced sequencing numbers 1-5 to complete their Polar Express puzzle! Awesome cutting skills!
Hot Cocoa Write the Room! Preschoolers have been doing an awesome job of matching upper to lowercase letters independently! They are problem solving tricky ones by collaborating with a friend, or using visuals around the room! We love this center to get our young learners up and moving while they learn!
Our Early Ender had preschoolers working together to sequence upper case letters of track, and then match up lowercase train cars! All aboard!
Guten Morgen! Christmas in Germany began with an introduction to one of the most famous castles in Germany! Named Neuschwanstein, it became the model for Walt Disney’s Cinderella Castle! Neuschwanstein has more than 200 rooms! The children enjoyed using blocks and tiles to create this famous castle! 🏰 Awesome!
“O, Tannenbaum. O, Tannenbaum” 🌲 We learned that the tradition of having a Christmas tree began in Germany by Martin Luther! These trees were decorated with candles, apples, cookies, and candies! We gathered hands and sang “O, Christmas Tree” just as they would have years ago!
Christmas Tree STEM 🌲 “How tall can you build your Christmas tree?”
Preschoolers we’re challenged to use as many cups as they could! They made predictions and reassessed plans as they worked together to construct their trees! Loved watching them plan, and execute their ideas! Super teamwork!
We created our own traditional Alpine hat using a special paper folding technique! Germans decorate these hats with accessories, such as Edelweiss! Preschoolers discovered these delicate flowers grow high in the Alps!
Scissor Snippin’ Santa! Choice time included practice in cutting straight, wavy, and zig zag lines! Super!
Today’s story, Santa’s Stuck, by Rhonda Gowlwer Greene was a rhyming  Christmas story that included this holiday project! Preschoolers enjoyed adding fun details by using paint, cotton balls, and marker!  Ho, Ho, Ho!
Oh, no! Santa’s stuck! What should we do?
Preschoolers brainstormed their own ideas of what we should do! Writing prompts are awesome for expressing creativity, building literacy skills, and developing a growth mindset! This was so fun!
Please consider donating to the Food Pantry on Thursday ❤️
Preschool is bringing boxed rice sides! Let’s stock those shelves for the Christmas holidays!
L is for Lights 🎄Super fun center that had us practicing the math skills matching and one to one correspondence, and some super fine motor work! Love these!
