Welcome to Preschool at St. Joseph Catholic School!

I am so excited to be your child’s preschool teacher this year!

This is my sixth year at St. Joseph Catholic School and I am looking

forward to helping your child grow, and learn,

and have fun this year.

I have been a preschool teacher in Libertyville for over 25 years,

and am passionate about helping young children learn.

I believe children learn best with hands-on experiences and

help facilitate their many different learning styles

in a kind and nurturing setting.

We will have an amazing year together meeting new friends, sharing new

discoveries, and learning new skills everyday.

Our instructional aide, Mrs. Tina Truskowski, has much experience in the classroom

after being a aide at St. Joseph Catholic School for over 15 years!

Together, we help build positive relationships with children to help foster

growth and confidence in a caring classroom community.

We are both looking forward to sharing a wonderful year with your child.

Earth Day Easel Painting was an open-ended activity that seemed to draw a crowd! Check the correct grip we practiced here!
Literacy Centers Rock! So many skills practiced today! Letter matching, formation, identification, and pre-writing! Continuing with these next week!
Me Bags with Niko! So fun learning all about Niko today! We discovered that Niko has a sister, Christiana who is in kindergarten, and met their let dog, Rita! Niko loves cars (Myles discovered they have a lot in common!), and showed us his favorite car! 🚙  Niko brought his construction ball, and enjoys throwing and catching it! We remembered how much Niko enjoyed Wall-e the story, and he showed us his Wall-e toy! Niko showed us his favorite story, Green Eggs & Ham, which we enjoyed reading a bit! So fun learning more about our friends at school!❤️❤️
The whole world in our hands! Preschoolers did a beautiful job of coloring, cutting, gluing, and writing today in this special project!
Stewards of this planet! 🌎
Community Garden Vegetables! You would not believe the growth these seeds have had over just 12 days! One bean plant measured 8 “ tall! Preschoolers are understanding these plants need larger containers to grow strong! This week they are transplanting seedlings to larger containers! And learning about parts of the plant! Check out the roots!
Earth Week in PreK!
Today’s focus of how we can help our planet was recycling! Our story, Michael Recycle, helped our preschoolers learn ways we can help our environment every day, not just Earth Day! 🌎 We discussed simple ways we can take care of our planet, and what it means to recycle!
Recycle Relay! “What happens to trash after you throw it out?” Preschoolers gained awareness of trash, and a better understanding of the importance of recycling! The children enjoyed searching for the recycling symbol on various kinds of packaging, and discovered some can be very tricky to find! ♻️  They learned that when preschoolers switched from using paper cups to reusable water bottles 6 years ago, we saved 10,000 cups a year! WOW!
Preschool+Plus Outer Space Adventure! As we wind down our month of intergalactic excitement, our preschoolers are now ready to create their own planets for our Preschool Solar System! They paired with a partner to create a paper mache model of their planet! The children were excited to hear that this is the same process used to make a piñata! Super messy, but so fun! Thursday we plan on painting these!
Today’s Math Center we added another die to yesterday’s game! This gave us practice with combining (adding) numbers, and identifying numbers 2-12!
V is for vase, vacuum, vest, velociraptor, vegetable, video game, violin, van, vehicle, and Violet!
V is for Vase    Tuesday’s we practice naming, sounds, and identification of our Letter Focus of the Week! This group rocked it!
V is for Vegetables.  I admitted to the class that this was the first time I had heard this story, just like them, and absolutely loved it! The cultural experience alone was enough to win me over, but love the lesson here! Would have loved to make the recipe included!
The 3 R’s! Today’s focus was on reusing! Preschoolers learned about artist Dale Chihuly, and were in awe of his glass creations! They painted empty water bottles in hopes of using them to build Chihuly’s beautiful Chandelier piece! Stay tuned!
Earth Day Scavenger Hunt 🌎 Our Hunt included flowers, birds, trees, ants…
Preschoolers paired up to use their powers of observation & perception, and locate nature items on their list! Super team building activity! Ask your preschoolers which items on the Hunt we were not able to locate! 🌎 💧 💚
