For ALL volunteers that will be in the school building for the 2026-2027 school year, the following must be completed to be in full volunteer compliance. 

**All requirements must be completed by October 29th before a person volunteers for the first time at St. Joseph Catholic School.**

FOR NEW VOLUNTEERS

All individuals volunteering at St. Joseph Catholic School within the Archdiocese of Chicago are required to complete the following five steps prior to volunteering.

To begin, visit Virtus Online and create an account. Follow the instructions for the Virtus registration process linked here.

When asked to select your PRIMARY location, please be sure to select St. Joseph School - Libertyville as your location to volunteer.

Five Required Steps:

1. Online Virtus Training Class – "Protecting God’s Children"
   This online informational class promotes awareness regarding child safety.

   • Register for the online class during the Virtus registration process.

   • After completing the training, you will begin receiving monthly Virtus bulletins, each requiring you to read and answer a multiple-choice question.

2. Online Criminal Background Check

   • Completed as part of the Virtus registration process.

3. Archdiocesan Standards of Behavior

   • Review the Standards of Behavior and electronically sign during registration.

4. DCFS CANTS 689 Form

   • Print, complete, and sign this form during the registration process.

   • Submit the signed form by uploading it at the bottom of this webpage.

5. Mandated Reporter Training

   • Mandated Reporter Training is now available through the Virtus system. Please log in to your Virtus account to complete the online training.

   • This training requires recertification every three years, including re-signing the Acknowledgement Form (CANTS 22).

   • Training takes approximately 30 minutes and requires a computer with audio and printing capabilities.

   • Submit via upload at the bottom of this webpage:

     • The DCFS Acknowledgement of Mandated Reporter Status Form (CANTS 22)

       • Complete and sign the form.

       • For "Employee Name" – use your name.

       • For "Type of Employment" – write “Volunteer.”

FOR CURRENT VOLUNTEERS

To remain current and active, you must maintain the following items in your Virtus Online account:

Ongoing Responsibilities:

• Monthly Virtus Bulletins

  • You will receive email reminders from Virtus Online.

  • Log into your account, click the Training Bulletins box, read the article, and answer the quiz question.

Annually (Starting July 1st Each Year):

• DCFS CANTS 689 Form

  • Complete and submit the form by uploading it at the bottom of this webpage.

• Archdiocesan Standards of Behavior

  • Log into your Virtus Online account.

  • Click on Required Documents, read the standards, and sign electronically.

Every 3 Years:

• Mandated Reporter Training

  • Complete the class again via your Virtus account.

  • Submit updated CANTS 22 by uploading it at the bottom of this webpage.

• Criminal Background Check

  • Update your background information in your Virtus account so a new background report can be processed.

• Refresher Training – "Keeping the Promise Alive"

  • Log into your Virtus account.

  • Click the Current Training box to access and complete the online refresher course.

CHECKING YOUR STATUS
