Welcome to Preschool at St. Joseph Catholic School!

I am so excited to be your child’s preschool teacher this year!

This is my ninth year at St. Joseph Catholic School and I am looking

forward to helping your child grow, and learn,

and have fun this year.

I have been a preschool teacher in Libertyville for over 25 years,

and am passionate about helping young children learn.

I believe children learn best with hands-on experiences and

help facilitate their many different learning styles

in a kind and nurturing setting.

We will have an amazing year together meeting new friends, sharing new

discoveries, and learning new skills everyday.

Our instructional aide, Mrs. Tina Truskowski, has much experience in the classroom

after being a aide at St. Joseph Catholic School for over 15 years!

Together, we help build positive relationships with children to help foster

growth and confidence in a caring classroom community.

We are both looking forward to sharing a wonderful year with your child.

Posts

We are so grateful for our amazing Room Parents & volunteers! Thank you for helping to make our party so special!
Grinch Day Fun in PreK 💚 Easel painting, fine motor threading station, color by number, and our writing prompt “How do we make the Grinch grin?” So fun listing all their brainstormed ideas!💚
Grinch Science💚 “How can you melt the Grinch’s heart”? Using hands on experiences, preschoolers experimented by adding salt to our frozen Grinch heart! The children discovered that salt can melt the frozen heart quickly enough to retrieve the Grinch’s true heart hiding inside!❤️
Grinch Dust 💚 Preschoolers discovered color mixing as they added blu and yellow to their magical Grinch Dust! 💙 + 💛 = 💚 We love integrating science into our literacy units! This began a discussion of other color mixing pairs, such as red + white to make pink, yellow + red to make orange, and red + blue to make purple!
Find your Match, Mr. Grinch! 💚 Preschoolers did an amazing job of independently searching for their match! Super phonics and phonemic awareness practice here! Letter identification, letter sounds, beginning sounds in words…
Scented pomanders are a European tradition 🍊 🌲 The children enjoyed designing their own clove-scented oranges! They smelled so good! Super fun fine motor work here, too!
Christmas in England! Preschoolers enjoyed learning about holiday traditions where the children wait for Father Christmas to visit! On Christmas Eve children write letters to him with their Christmas wishes! They then crinkle up the paper, toss it into the fire to send their wishes up to Father Christmas! We searched our room for the golden coin that brings good luck in the new year!

Christmas Crackers!

Christmas guests in England find surprises inside their crackers, such as King’ crowns and little toys! We loved sharing the traditional way to open them with the children!
Long Bridge STEM! Preschoolers did an amazing job of designing their own London Bridge! They paid attention to design elements and shapes, and used some great strategy to build this historic bridge! The children were surprised to learn that this was the bridge in the nursery rhyme, “London Bridge”, and even sang it while constructing their bridges!
Gingerbread Man Study! We have had so much fun read, comparing, and contrasting this holiday folktale! Today we read our final story, The Gingerbread Baby, and discovered Matti the little boy was the clever one this time! Not the Fox! We took turns voting for our faves, added the tallies, to find Jan Brett’s story had the most votes!
Gingerbread Man Write the Room! This one had us forming both upper and lowercase letters as we searched the room! Loved how they worked together to help each other! Writing alphabet letters would be a great thing to practice over Christmas break!
The Gingerbread Man is loose on our school! Our Gingerbread Man Hunt led us throughout the school, as the children answered rhyming riddles to find their next clue! They did an awesome job of working together to find clues, answer riddles, and head towards the destination of the next clue! We looked for help along the way by asking teachers and other staff members if they had seen this tricky cookie! Amazing teamwork and collaboration, Preschoolers!
