Welcome to Preschool at St. Joseph Catholic School!

I am so excited to be your child’s preschool teacher this year!

This is my sixth year at St. Joseph Catholic School and I am looking

forward to helping your child grow, and learn,

and have fun this year.

I have been a preschool teacher in Libertyville for over 25 years,

and am passionate about helping young children learn.

I believe children learn best with hands-on experiences and

help facilitate their many different learning styles

in a kind and nurturing setting.

We will have an amazing year together meeting new friends, sharing new

discoveries, and learning new skills everyday.

Our instructional aide, Mrs. Tina Truskowski, has much experience in the classroom

after being a aide at St. Joseph Catholic School for over 15 years!

Together, we help build positive relationships with children to help foster

growth and confidence in a caring classroom community.

We are both looking forward to sharing a wonderful year with your child.

We used a fun puffy paint technique using shaving cream and glue to create  our melting snowman! Tables were given hats, buttons, scarves, noses…. to make their snowman unique! The children then completed their own sentence prompt using super fun and unique ideas! ❤️
Gung Hay Fat Choy!
(Happy New Year!)
Preschool+Plus World Travelers visit China this month!
We love learning about new cultures and traditions! Today preschoolers were introduced to customs of the Chinese culture as they celebrate their New Year! We discovered their preparations include cleaning the house (sweeping away bad luck from last year), buying budding flowers (remind us that new things can always grow), a new outfit and haircut (start the year all fresh and new), yummy foods and soups (good health for the new year) and family❤️❤️!

Lucky Red Envelopes are a very special tradition in the Chinese New Year Celebration! Red is the color of good luck, happiness, and good fortune in China and will be found many times throughout our celebration this week! Today we practiced “filling” each one with money using chopsticks!
Chinese Lanterns & Lucky Red Envelopes! Preschoolers enjoyed making these special New Year traditions! We learned that children receive money in the lucky red envelopes to help bring them good luck in the New Year! A culture rich in traditions! Ask your child what they out inside their envelope!
Using chop sticks to write letters and words today! Many children were surprised to hear that chopsticks are used like a fork or spoon in China! They were excited to take home their very own set of chopsticks to use at home!
How many bricks we learned were used to construct the Great Wall of China!
We estimated we used over 200 “bricks” to build our own Great Wall today!
Today preschoolers worked together to build our own Great Wall! Our brick-builders and wall constructors did an amazing job of weaving around obstacles (our tables and chairs were a tricky one), repairing damage when needed (we discovered the bags own tipped over), and not giving up (they stuck with this until they used all the bags we could find!)❤️

Great Wall

Our Great Wall of China wrapped around our classroom, and went through our early elementary hallway!❤️
Letter Nn   As we add another letter to our Word Wall each week, preschoolers often are given the opportunity to “read” the room! This is when they search  environmental print looking for words that begin with our letter! Concepts of print is an important pre-reading skill for our young learners!
N is for Nixon!
God Knows My Name  Our Special Religion Unit this week has preschoolers understanding that God is with us always! He hears our thoughts and words. He knows every hair on our head, and each and every one of our names!❤️
❤️these! This mosaic name project not only turned out beautiful, but proved to be an awesome way to practice that pincer grasp! Picking up all those little pieces of paper is a skill builder!
N is for Name! We introduced our Rainbow Letter Wheels today! These are a great resource to help us introduce letters in a meaningful way to our young learners! We love the clips for sneaking in fine motor work!
Letter N rocked today! What a selection! Nutcracker, newspaper, noodles, necklace, narwhal, Nico, nail polish, nine, nail file, and number! ❤️
N is for Noodles! Our sensory table has us exploring shape and color this week! Preschoolers enjoyed using tweezers to sort their colorful noodles in matching color cups! We had fun introducing such noodle names as ziti, rigatoni, and macaroni!
