PreK 3

Religion - Unit 3: God Made Me Happy - “I Can Laugh”. The children will know that God is with them. They will appreciate being able to laugh. The children will be introduced to the story of Isaac.

Social Studies- The children will begin to understand that holidays are celebrations of special events. They will participate in birthday celebrations and realize these are also important days we celebrate. The children will realize that these celebrations are meant to honor their friends  and they will participate in our own classroom birthday traditions.

Language/Literacy - Storytime: Increasing listening and attending skills. Integrating visual (pictures) with auditory (spoken words) to facilitate learning. Letter Focus of the Week: Ii.

Math - Use of conventional tools to measure ingredients. Fractions and wholes. Follow directions and sequencing.

**Polar Express Day! Preschoolers will participate in a variety of activities centered around the beloved holiday classic, “The Polar Express”, by Chris Van Allsburg.

PreK 4

Religion - Unit 3 - “God Made the Earth - God Made the Light”. The children will be grateful  to God for the gift of light. They will identify Jesus as light and know that Jesus had the power to heal.  Seeds: All Creation is ready for Jesus. The children will recognize how they prepare to celebrate Christmas. They will understand that the world is ready and waiting for the birth of Jesus. The children will praise God for the wonders of the natural world and for the people in it. They will name the things God make in the world.

Science - Fizzy Star Science - Hands-on science. Preschoolers will witness the chemical reaction between the two ingredients as they produce carbon dioxide, the bubbles they observe. They will follow listen to follow directions of this experiments. Liquids/solids - identify differences. Children will predict what will occur. Using information gathered from observations, children will draw conclusions.

Literacy - Literacy - OWL - Unit 3 - Week 3. The Places We Go: “What can we do in our community?” Phonological awareness: blend onset & rime, compare sounds that begin words.  Alphabet knowledge: name letters and recognize letter sounds Concept of print. Oral language: demonstrate understanding of words, categorize words, demonstrate meaning of words.  Name upper/lowercase letters Aa - Kk. Focus on letter of the week: Ii. Concept words: gym, mall, movie theater, restaurant, supermarket, zoo. Amazing words: delicious, stir, dough, lovely, sip, ingredient.

Gingerbread Man Unit (cont’d): We will explore this holiday folk tale by comparing/contrasting different versions focusing on characters, settings, outcome, and repeated phrase. Preschoolers will sequence events in this holiday favorite. Gingerbread Girl, Gingerbread Cowboy, Gingerbread Baby.

Math - Geometry: Name common shapes, identify solid shapes, name and describe attributes of solid shapes, create solid shapes using various materials. Ten frame: using a graphic tool to foster math skills & concepts. Ordering by size. Representing & writing numbers 1-12. Measuring: using non-standard units. Patterning.

Preschool+Plus

Christmas Around the World!  We will be celebrating diversity as we learn about other cultures and traditions. Activities involved will help foster enthusiasm and curiosity for other customs and celebrations around the world. Our holiday unit will focus on: Christmas celebrations in Holland, England, and Germany, Las Posadas in Mexico, and Hanukkah in Israel.
