PreK 3

Religion - Advent: The children will know that Christmas is Jesus’ birthday. They will understand that sometimes we show our love by giving gifts, and God’s gift to us is Jesus.

Social Studies - St. Nicholas Day. The children will learn about how different people around the world celebrate the coming of Santa Claus. The children will hear the story of the real Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of children. They will learn that he was generous and helped others by giving them gold coins.

Language/Literacy - Shared book experience. Building oral language through repeated readings of favorite stories to encourage children to “read” along on parts of the story they remember. Use of rhyme and alliteration to build phonological awareness. Focus on Letter of the Week: Kk

Math - Observing similarities and differences of attributes to sort and classify. Focus on Shape of the Week: Star.

PreK 4

Religion - Advent: The children will be excited about preparing for the birth of Baby Jesus. They will know that at Christmas we celebrate the birth of Jesus. The children will desire to prepare for Jesus’ birthday and think of several kind acts they might perform as a gift for Jesus.

Seeds: We wait for Jesus to come. The children will consider what it means to wait and prepare for a special event. They will learn the beginning of the Christmas story. The children will become familiar with Advent. They will recognize ways they get ready for Christmas in their homes

Social Studies - Saint Nicholas Day. The children will hear the story of the real Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of children. They will learn that he was generous and often helped  others. The children will learn about St. Nicholas Day and what tradition means.

Scholastic - My BIG World: Go to Sleep Hedgehog! •Science Focus: hibernation •Vocabulary: act out word meanings • Vocabulary Theme Words: hedgehog, hibernation, hibernate, snails •Using Visuals: categorizing.

*Student Council: The 12 Days of Giving - Collecting items for the Food Pantry for those in need. (Items requested listed on flyer sent home)

Literacy - OWL - Unit 3 - Week 4: All Kinds of Communities - “What kinds of communities do people live in?”  Alphabet Knowledge: match letters, Phonological awareness: identify rhyming and non-rhyming word pairs Writing: dictate a story. Concept words: country, farm, neighbor, people, town. Amazing words: bloom, garden, stem, breeze, sprinkle, vine, Blend onset and rime. Categorize words. Identify ending punctuation. Answer questions about a book. Retell a story. Gingerbread Man Unit: We will explore this holiday folk tale by comparing/contrasting different versions focusing on characters, outcome, and repeated phrase. Review: Name uppercase and lowercase letters and recognize sounds Aa-Jj. Identify similar/different beginning sounds. Delete syllable from words. Focus on Letter of the Week: Kk   Kk is for Kris Kringle.

Math - Geometry: Name and describe attributes of  common solid shapes: cone, cube, sphere. Identify and combine solid shapes to create new ones. Create common three-dimensional shapes. Demonstrate that the order of counting sequence is always the same. Extending patterns. Graphing 2-D flat shapes. Sorting by size.

CAPE - Music & Movement with Mrs. Maria Schneider. Gym with Ms. Nash’s cass. Music with Mr. Showstead: Christmas Program Practice.

Preschool+Plus

Christmas Around the World!  We will be celebrating diversity as we learn about other cultures and traditions. Activities involved will help foster enthusiasm and curiosity for other customs and celebrations around the world. Our holiday unit will focus on: Christmas celebrations in Holland, England, and Germany, Las Posadas in Mexico, and Hanukkah in Israel.
