Welcome to Preschool at St. Joseph Catholic School! 

I am so excited to be your child’s preschool teacher this year!

This is my ninth year at St. Joseph Catholic School and I am looking

forward to helping your child grow, and learn,

and have fun this year.

I have been a preschool teacher in Libertyville for over 25 years,

and am passionate about helping young children learn.

I believe children learn best with hands-on experiences and

help facilitate their many different learning styles

in a kind and nurturing setting.

We will have an amazing year together meeting new friends, sharing new

discoveries, and learning new skills everyday.

Our instructional aide, Mrs. Tina Truskowski, has much experience in the classroom

after being a aide at St. Joseph Catholic School for over 15 years!

Together, we help build positive relationships with children to help foster

growth and confidence in a caring classroom community.

We are both looking forward to sharing a wonderful year with your child.

Hopping Corn Experiment Results! 🌽

When the baking soda and vinegar combine, they create the bubbles (a gas)!! The bubbles circle around the corn kernels and lift the kernels up to the water surface! The bubbles pop and the kernels sink back down!
Our Math objectives this week have us discussing flat shapes verses fat shapes (3-d shapes). Perfect opportunity to review our shales with fun Color Shale Bingo! We added a twist by the preschoolers calling out the double attributes (both color and shape) on each card! Games are awesome for teaching cognitive skills, as well as important concept such as sharing, turn 
-taking, teamwork, and patience! 
Music & Movement: Shapes! Wish we could capture all the engagement here! An awesome game for building listening skills and cementing those basic shape names!
This week we are reading and re-reading several versions of our folk tale, The Little Red Hen! Preschoolers are participating in telling, retelling, comparing/contrasting, and discussing a moral dilemma. Was it wrong for the Little Red Hen nit to share her bread? Most believed she should have shared!
Introducing the use of a Venn diagram, a visual organizer! Comparing and contrasting texts helps build comprehension, language, and critical thinking skills! Such a fun week with The Little Hen! Everyone participated in adding at least one difference or similarity! We love all your insight and attention to detail! Just check these out!
Any chance anyone has a few of these to share?! Looking to make a game for our preschoolers!
Sticker Station 🦃  So loved watching this group share materials and space as they worked together to sort colored stickers onto the matching feather! Working on vertical surfaces rocks! And love the fine motor practice this group used by peeling and sticking the colored dots!
Working on vertical surfaces is an excellent way to develop hand/wrist extension and fine motor control!
We love this home/school connection to help develop letter awareness in our preschoolers! This also builds oral language skills as the children take turns to share their alphabetic item! Today’s selection included Hulk, heart, hat, hammer, hippopotamus, horse….! 
‘H’ is for Hear! The Listening Center features a fun game of I Can Hear! Preschoolers listen to and identify environmental sounds, such as a dog barking, a train, a drum, and hammering, and match the sound in our board! 
Such an imaginative selection of Letter Hh items today! Hockey stick, hot dog, Hans Solo, horse, hat, Hungry Hippo, hedgehog, hen, heart, hide-and-seek… They so enjoy sharing their item each week!
