Welcome to Preschool at St. Joseph Catholic School!

I am so excited to be your child’s preschool teacher this year!

This is my sixth year at St. Joseph Catholic School and I am looking

forward to helping your child grow, and learn,

and have fun this year.

I have been a preschool teacher in Libertyville for over 25 years,

and am passionate about helping young children learn.

I believe children learn best with hands-on experiences and

help facilitate their many different learning styles

in a kind and nurturing setting.

We will have an amazing year together meeting new friends, sharing new

discoveries, and learning new skills everyday.

Our instructional aide, Mrs. Tina Truskowski, has much experience in the classroom

after being a aide at St. Joseph Catholic School for over 15 years!

Together, we help build positive relationships with children to help foster

growth and confidence in a caring classroom community.

We are both looking forward to sharing a wonderful year with your child.

Such a fun week exploring this favorite folk tale! Preschoolers compared and contrasted four versions of The Three Billy Goats Gruff! We love this activity to help build comprehension, listening skills, and an understanding of similarities and differences! Friday’s fave was The Three Cabritos, by Eric A. Kimmel. Our familiarity with the original tale made it easy for us to recognize the southwestern variations in this story! The Spanish names and terms also made this a fun read aloud!
Three Billy Goats Gruff STEAM 🐐 🐐 🐐! “Can you build a bridge that can support three billy goats?” STEAM provides problem solving and creativity in young children! Working in teams, the children built bridge supports from Duplo blocks. They then experimented with different ways to fold or manipulate a pice of paper to give it strength! We love learning environments, such as this, where all can engage and contribute! Their collaboration and teamwork was just amazing!
The children discovered they needed to strengthen their bridge! They used several techniques that included folding the paper!
‘A’ in STEAM stands for Art! Preschoolers enjoyed creating their own folk tale-inspired  patrolled! Using Play-do, they needed to create a 3-D character that could fit under their bridge, and stand up on its own! ❤️❤️
Gg is for Gobble, Gobble!
Little turkey, Little turkey find your plate.
Gobble, gobble, gobble you taste great!
We are having fun learning some new Letter Gg songs this week! Ask your preschooler about Grandma’s Glasses and Hello, Mr. Turkey! 🦃
Letters and Numbers!
Clifford brought the children a surprise box containing fun morning work that had preschoolers differentiating between letters and numbers! WOW!
Scholastic My BIG World this week is all about Autumn! Preschoolers brainstormed things that change during Fall; such as getting cold, wearing coats, and leaves turning colors! The children discovered not all trees loose leaves, and these are called evergreens! We made a fun autumn project that had us using our fine motor skills to cut and tear paper! 🍂🍂
Super Powers, unite! Green Glitter Letter wands to hunt for letters F and G in our classroom! The children identified both upper and lowercase letters!
Great job letter hunting, Preschoolers! This activity had us building awareness of environmental print in our classroom and an interest in letters!
PreK 4 Social Studies - Elections
Preschoolers learned about the voting process today as they cast their vote for their favorite Halloween candy! Although there were many candidates, only 3 made the ballot! 🍭 🍬 🍭 Voters visited our voting booth to cast their vote, and placed it in the ballot box! The ballots were read and recorded! Each vote counted! It was a close race at times! Mrs. Beyer had to cast the tie-breaker! Our election results!
1st Place - Skittles
2nd Place - Candy Corn
3rd Place Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
We love this for helping preschoolers learn about the voting process, new vocabulary, and voting etiquette! Our voters waited patiently in line to cast their vote!
