Preschool 3’s

Religion - Religion - Special Lesson: Feast of Saints. The children will learn that Halloween is the eve of a celebration in honor of Jesus’ friends, the saints. They will listen to a story about St. Paul. 

Language/Literacy -  Recognizing our name in print. Connecting spoken words to words in print. Using language to communicate ideas. Letter Focus of the Week: Gg. Home/School Connection: Bring an item that begins with Letter Gg.

Science - Magic Milk Experiment. Our favorite kitchen chemistry experiment! The children will make observations as bursting colors appear as the fat in the milk reacts to our catalyst, soap! They will use language to describe the changes.

Social Studies -  Me Bags: learning about our friends at school to help facilitate development of relationships. Building/supporting friendships in the classroom. 

PreK 4

Religion -   Special Lesson: Feast of Saints. This lesson focuses on the religious meaning of Halloween as the eve of the feast of All Saints.The children will learn that Halloween is related to a celebration of all the saints. They will become acquainted with Saint  Elizabeth of Hungary 

Social Studies - My BIG World with Clifford. My Autumn Nature Walk: “Let’s go on a nature walk. What will we see? All of Autumn’s colors! Just follow me!” Science Focus: autumn season. Vocabulary Theme Word: evergreen. Visual Arts: colors. Phonemic Awareness: Rhyming.

Special Lesson:  Elections: The children will hold a mock election to vote for their favorite Halloween candy. Preschoolers will be introduced to the concept of elections and the voting process. The children will tally results and compare data using a bar graph. Vocabulary: ballot, voting booth, election, ballot box, most/fewest.

Language/Literacy - Unit 2 Week 3: We All Help. “How does everyone in a family help?”  Alphabet knowledge: match and name upper/lowercase letters.  Writing: using letters or symbols to make words or word parts, write from left to right.  Motivation to read: engage in pre-reading/reading -related activities.  Phonological awareness: delete part of a compound word, blend onset and rime, clap syllables. Oral language: participate in a discussion, use complete sentences, understand meaning of words, answer questions about a book. Letter Focus of the Week: Gg. Home/School Connection: Bring an item that begins with Letter Gg.

Special Literacy Unit: “The Three Billy Goats Gruff”. Preschoolers will compare and contrast several versions of this Norwegian fairy tale. We will introduce story concepts such as beginning, middle, and end, and discuss characters and setting in our stories. We will vote for our favorite story.

Math - Number & Operations: use concrete models and make word problems for subtracting from 1 to 5 objects, adding up to 4 objects. Writing numbers 1 - 5. Understand that the order of counting does not change the number. Count up to 10 objects. Cardinality: demonstrate that last count indicates how many.

STEAM - The Three Billy Goats Gruff. The children will use the engineering design process to create a paper bridge and test it’s strength/effectiveness as they retell the story using their art-inspired troll.
