Pre-K 3
Religion - Unit 2 - God Made Me Good: I Can Smile. The children will learn that a smile is a sign of happiness that makes others happy. They will hear that Jesus made others happy and pray psalm verses about joy. The children will know that God wants them to be happy.
Science - ‘F’ is for Franken-worm Science. Children will be involved in measuring, mixing, observing reactions as they add Gummy Worms to the baking soda and vinegar solution.
Social Studies - Me Bags: learning about our friends at school to help facilitate development of relationships. Holidays: Halloween traditions.
Language/Literacy - Halloween rhymes, songs, fingerplays to help introduce rhyming, patterning, and vocabulary. Identifying our name in print. Focus on Letter of the Week: Ff.
Math - Naming basic shapes. Comparing and identifying similarities among objects.
Pre-K 4
Religion - Unit 2 Week 4 - God Made Water. The children have experiences with water, which prepare them for its use in the liturgy.They will appreciate the gift of water. The children will know that water is used in church and associate water with life. Seeds Lesson: Jesus wants us to be helpers. The children will recognize that every person is important, and we need each other and the talents each possesses. The children will recognize who is important to Jesus. They will express ways they are helpers.
Social Studies - Friendships inside and outside our classroom community. Teaching tolerance, kindness, acceptance. “Strictly No Elephants” book, by Lisa Mantchev. Friendship Fruit Salad. Team Building Activities with Ms. Nash’s Class: Building skills in communication, cooperation, listening, and self-esteem as preschoolers work and play in different groups.
OWL Social Studies: identify similarities and differences in characteristics of families, identify similarities and differences between self and people from other cultures.
Science - Witch’s Brew. The children will be introduced to the science behind slime! They will learn that slime is a little bit of a solid and a little bit of a liquid. This is called a Non-newtonian fluid! They will be involved in measuring and mixing glue (a polymer) to liquid starch ( which connects the polymers together to form a more non-liquid state), and a handful of Witch’s Brew ingredients as they make observations about their science experiment.
Literacy/Language - Unit 2 Week 2: Caring & Sharing. “How do family members care for one another?” Alphabet Knowledge: identify and name letters. Phonological Awareness: blend onset and rime to form words, combine syllables. Oral Language: label and categorize words, understand meaning of words, use language in a discussion, use complete sentences of four or more words. Concepts of Print: engage in pre-reading and reading-related activities. Writing: left-to-right progression, writing lowercase letters a-f.. Concept words: baby, care, child, grown-up, hug, tear. Amazing words: sob, whisper, gently, lullaby, learn, pediatrician. Big Pumpkin, by Erica Silverman: story sequencing - characters in a story. Letter Focus of the Week: Ff.
Math - Number & Operations: Identify number of objects 1 to 5, count up to 10 items demonstrating that last count indicates how many, demonstrate understanding that items can be counted in any order. Graphing: organizing and recording data. Writing numbers 1-5. Patterning: AB.
CAPE: Music with Mr. Showstead, Media with Mrs. Hoglund, Gym.
Preschool+Plus
World Travelers: Egypt - Media with Mrs. Hoglund. Mrs. Hoglund will weave our Egyptian adventures into preschooler’s Media experiences.
STEAM - “Can you make a spider move using magnetic force?” The children will explore magnetic force with this hands-on spooky spider STEAM activity. They will identify items that are attracted to a magnet and those that are not. The children will discover that a magnet is attracted to certain metals and this is called their magnetic field. Preschoolers will design their own “web” and learn how a spider can be moved around their web using a magnet. The children will develop eye-hand coordination and control as they maneuver their magnet.
