Week at a Glance - February 20 - 24

PreK 4
 

Religion - Unit 4 - God Made Me Active: “I Can Make Things”. We can make things and contribute to the world God made. The children will understand that God made everything. They will experience the joy and satisfaction of using our minds and bodies to bring about something new.

Social Studies - Participating in making classroom decisions. Going from Me to We.
 
Language/Literacy - Letter review: Aa-Oo. Letters in our name. Enjoying listening to and discussing storybooks.
 
Math -  Number recognition 1-5. Counting to 10. Recognizing/exploring basic shapes. 
 
PreK 4
 
Religion - Unit 4 - God Made Living Things: “God Made Animals”. The children will know that God made and cares for many different kinds of animals. They will praise and thank God for animals and realize importance of respecting and caring for animals. Seeds: The children will recognize that being friends with God means they must forgive others. Jesus teaches us to love and forgive.
 
Social Studies - Scholastic My BIG World: Alligator Teeth. February is Dental Health Month. Going to the dentist.
 
Science -  Happy Smiles, Healthy Teeth. Foods that are good/not good for healthy teeth. Experiment: Magic Milk. When fat in the milk mixes with soap, the children will observe swirling and churning of rainbow colors. 
 

OWL - Unit 5 - Week 2 - Jungle Animals: “What are jungle animals like?”. Phonological awareness: onset and rime. Alphabet knowledge: produce letter sound, letter naming. Print awareness. Oral language: label and describe things, understand meaning of words, What’s My word? Concept words: elephant, frog, lion, monkey, zebra, parrot. Amazing words: chase, collect, complain, mistake, pattern, splash.

Math - Patterns: recognize and create patterns. Create and extend patterns: sound, color.Number recognition 1-15. Writing numbers.

PreK 4s had a great Valentines party! Thank you to all the parents for helping! We all had so much fun! 
Non standard measuring- today we worked in pairs measuring each other to find out how many hearts tall we were. Mrs. Beyer was 11 hearts tall!! 
Pre K 3s enjoyed a wonderful Valentines Party today! Thank you to all the parents who put together such a wonderful celebration!

Religion -  Special Lesson 8: Valentine’s Day. God loves us. The children will know that God loves them. They will gain a desire to show love to others.

Social Studies - February 14 is for friends! Getting along with friends. Using kind words when communicating with others. Games and activities to encourage cooperation and promote friendship.

Language/Literacy - Rhyming. Same & Different. Letter recognition Aa-Nn. Focus on letter of the Week: Oo.

Math - Recognizing attributes of basic shapes. Identifying/sorting shapes. Focus on shape of the week: Heart. Count to 10.

PreK 4

Religion - Special Lesson 8: Valentine’s Day. On Valentine’s Day we express love. The children will know that on Valentine’s Day we show love. They will be grateful for God’s love. Valentine’s Day offers a good opportunity to plant the seeds of understanding Christ’s Great Commandment.  Seeds: The children will learn that Jesus’s rule is to love one another.  

Social Studies - Scholastic My BIG World: “Friends Say, “Thank You”. February 14 is for friends!   What can you say when a friend shares with you?Celebrating President’s Day - Presidents Washington and Lincoln.  

Science - Candy Heart Science.  The children will make predictions and observations about how candy hearts react in different liquids.  They will learn how to document their results.

OWL - Unit 5 - Week 1 -  Journey to a Jungle: “What is a jungle?”. Sequencing a story. Phonological awareness: rhyming words, delete onset. Alphabet knowledge:  letter naming, upper/lowercase letters. Recognize letter sounds. Focus on Letter of the Week: Oo. Concept words: branch, color, hot, jungle, leaf, trunk. Amazing words: explore, hunt, twig, giant, graze, moist.  

Math -  Recognize and create patterns. Numbers & operations:  Use concrete models or make a verbal word problem for subtracting objects from a set.  Candy heart measurement: measuring with non-standard units.  Valentine candy heart graphing: sorting, one-to-one correspondence,  documenting results.
