Welcome to Preschool at St. Joseph Catholic School!

I am so excited to be your child’s preschool teacher this year!

This is my ninth year at St. Joseph Catholic School and I am looking

forward to helping your child grow, and learn,

and have fun this year.

I have been a preschool teacher in Libertyville for over 25 years,

and am passionate about helping young children learn.

I believe children learn best with hands-on experiences and

help facilitate their many different learning styles

in a kind and nurturing setting.

We will have an amazing year together meeting new friends, sharing new

discoveries, and learning new skills everyday.

Our instructional aide, Mrs. Tina Truskowski, has much experience in the classroom

after being a aide at St. Joseph Catholic School for over 15 years!

Together, we help build positive relationships with children to help foster

growth and confidence in a caring classroom community.

We are both looking forward to sharing a wonderful year with your child.

*Please remember to subscribe to my website for updates including fun photos

and videos of our classroom!!

Welcome to Our Bunch!

PreK 4 Remote Learning: 5/4

                              Morning Zoom Meeting

Religion:  Seeds Lesson: Jesus is our shepherd. The children will recognize the image of Jesus as our shepherd. They will notice God’s care in the family that surrounds them with love, and provides food and shelter and a safe and happy place to be.

Math;  Draw 4 ovals. Color them light blue. With adult supervision, cut them out. Draw 6 rectangles. Color them brown, and cut them out. Use these shapes to make some math problems. For example, 2 ovals + 3 rectangles = 5 shapes. How many math sentences can you make? When you are done, make a nest with the rectangles. Glue the oval eggs in your nest.

Literacy/Language:  Make-It, Break-It. Recognize letter sounds. Rhyming. Vocabulary: crown, breast, beak, tail feathers, egg tooth.

Social Studies:  Scholastic: My BIG World with Clifford. A Teeny Tiny Nest. (Issue March 2020)  Science Focus: egg animals, life cycle. Gross Motor Skills: movement. Math: counting.

Science:  Eggs to Chick. Go outside (with adult supervision) and sit quietly for 10 minutes. How many birds do you see? Do you know what kind of birds are in your backyard? Robin? Sparrow? Cardinal? Do you see any bird nests in the trees?

Seeds-May-3-2020- 4th Sunday of Easter

Children love the image of the Good Shepherd and his care for the animals.
The image can help your child notice God’s care in the family that surrounds them with love and provides food, shelter, and a safe and happy
place to be. Discuss some things that you all care for as a family.
Loved my surprise birthday wishes! Thank you so much for filling this gal’s heart with so much love! Your videos, cards, chalk drawings, flowers, surprise visits, and Starbucks tea were just amazing, and will make this birthday one I’ll never forget!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Maddie has been doing a great job germinating, planting, and watering her green beans! Soon she will transfer it to a bigger pot!  These are incredible, Maddie!💚🌱💚🌱 She has loved watching  her beans grow!❤️
Daniel and Mateo are learning a lot about cooking, and trying new recipes! Daniel even learned how to use a peeler! Yum! Looks delicious!❤️

PreK 3 Remote Learning: 5/1

Remote Learning:  Friday, May 1, 2020

Remote Learning Grid: Choose 1-2 activites on your Grid! Color each square when complete.

Religion: We show our love for God by helping others. Help a family member do a chore (set the table, fold laundry, make your bed, sweep the sidewalk).

Math Kitchen Shape Hunt. How many circles can you find in your kitchen? How many squares? Can you find any triangles in your kitchen??

Language/Literacy:  Literacy includes the development of fine motor skills so they can be strengthened to be able to hold a pencil that will eventually produce written words.

Play-do Name: Use Play-do (or make your own!) to roll out snakes. Form the snakes into letters in your name!

My favorite Play-Do Recipe:

In a large pot (I use a dutch oven), combine following over low heat::

  1 cup of water

  1 tablespoon vegetable oil

   Several drops of food coloring

In separate bowl, combine dry ingredients:

1 cup of flour (I have used gluten-free options with success)

  ½ cup salt

  1 tablespoon cream of tartar

Slowly add the dry ingredients to liquid. Combine well. Continue stirring until forms ball. Knead. Add flour is mixture is too sticky. Store in airtight container.

PreK 4 Remote Learning: 5/1

                                Morning Zoom Meeting

Religion:  Kindness Challenge. How can we walk in the footsteps of Jesus? Help clean up our planet Earth, as well as our home.

Math:  Cut out 5 squares and 5 circles. How many shapes do you have all together? Math problems;  2 squares + 2 circles = ?

3 squares + 1 circle = ?    3 squares + 4 circles = ?

Can you think of any other math sentences?

Literacy/Language:  Superhero Day. “Superhero” is a compound word. Make it, Break It with compound words. Rhymes to build oral language, alliteration, and rhythm.  Superhero Syllable Clap. Matching letter to beginning sounds.

Social Studies:  “Who is your favorite Superhero?” Draw a picture of him/her.

Science:  Earth Day. Get a piece of paper towel. Draw a large circle using a black marker on the towel. Using blue and green markers, color the circle. Cut out your circle. Spray or sprinkle with water (so the colors blend). Let dry. When your planet Earth has dried, glue on a piece of paper. With a grown-ups help, write “I love the Earth”.

Salt dough recipe:

1 cup all purpose flour

1 cup of salt

½ cup of water

  • In a large bowl mix salt and flour together.
  • Gradually stir in water. Mix well until it forms a doughy consistency.
  • Kneed with your hands until smooth and combined.
  • Make your creations using the salt dough.
  • Place the salt dough creations into the oven at 180C. The amount of time needed to bake depends
on the size and thickness of the salt dough creations.

Jack and the Beanstalk:  Our Fairy Tales unit had PreK4 planting beans just like Jack did! True to the tale, these beans are growing at an incredible rate! Notice their growth in only 2 days! 🌱💚🌱
Fallon is busy working on our preschool Activity Grid. She is doing an amazing job of tracing, and cutting out numbers 1-10, and them placing them in order!
Awesome work, Fallon!❤️
Daniel and Mateo drew ‘Thank You’ cards for people in their community who are working and helping us even during this difficult time. ❤️ So beautiful.
