Welcome to Preschool at St. Joseph Catholic School!

I am so excited to be your child’s preschool teacher this year!

This is my ninth year at St. Joseph Catholic School and I am looking

forward to helping your child grow, and learn,

and have fun this year.

I have been a preschool teacher in Libertyville for over 25 years,

and am passionate about helping young children learn.

I believe children learn best with hands-on experiences and

help facilitate their many different learning styles

in a kind and nurturing setting.

We will have an amazing year together meeting new friends, sharing new

discoveries, and learning new skills everyday.

Our instructional aide, Mrs. Tina Truskowski, has much experience in the classroom

after being a aide at St. Joseph Catholic School for over 15 years!

Together, we help build positive relationships with children to help foster

growth and confidence in a caring classroom community.

We are both looking forward to sharing a wonderful year with your child.

This week preschoolers had fun practicing using scissors and glue at our Color Collage table 🌈
Preschool+Plus Book Club featured Drew Daywalt this week! Tuesday’s read, “The Day the Crayons Quit” was followed up today with “The Days the Crayons Came Home! Preschoolers used a beautiful crayon resist technique that featured the often unused White Crayon! This beautiful process art will be displayed in our classroom!
Literacy Circles include building alphabet knowledge and phonological awareness with fun games that keep the children engaged! Today preschoolers connected letters to sounds with our Cookie game!
Kitty Cat, Kitty Cat 🐈  Our preschoolers loved using their Kitty Cats I. This “Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear”-like activity had us listening, following directions, and laughing at our cat’s silly actions!
Triangle Penants! Little hands need little tools! We use lots of tweezers, tongs, brushes, and little manipulative to help preschoolers gain practice and develop fine motor control!
We loved this activity for building cooperation, teamwork, and spatial awareness. Our Math circle had us reading stories and doing a shapes music and movement activity. We made small models of triangles and learned each has 3 corners and sides. Preschoolers then broke off in groups of 3 and formed their owned triangle!
We practiced using scissors correctly and safely! Our Helper Hand holds the paper as our scissors cut on the line! Our Scissor Hand always has thumbs up! Elbows are tucked in! PreK 4 preschoolers each have a pair of scissors in their crayon box so practicing scissor safety and use is very important.
Blue Triangle Puppets was an awesome opportunity for preschoolers to develop and use their listening skills! Our shape activity gave us practice with positional words (above, below, behind, in front) step by step directions!
We hope you enjoy our BLUE song posted on the back of our Triangle Puppets! Sung to the tune of “The Farmer in the Dell”💙

”The Day the Crayons Quit”, by Drew Daywalt! The children brainstormed all the things we color with our crayons! (Is it no wonder Blue was the shortest crayon?) Yellow for the sun, and Green for grass. What would happen if they quit? Great for developing our imagination and creativity, as well as making predictions!
