Peek at Our Week September 12 - September 16, 2022

Pre-K 3

Religion - Unit 1 God Made Me: I Can See. The children will talk about their gift of sight. They will take a walk and see all that God has made. They will learn that God gave them eyes to see and thank Him for this gift of sight. The children will listen to the story of the lost coin.

Language/Literacy - Listening and attending to language during songs, stories, learning experiences.  Recognizing/understanding that letters in print represent our names. Focus on Letter of the Week: Bb. Home/school connection - bring ‘B’ object from home.

Social Studies - Me Bags: learning about our friends at school. Identify characteristics of a friend. Display good friendship skills through play.

Science - All About Me: My Five Senses. “What do you see?” Environmental walk. Using our sense of sight to explore the world around us.

Math - Making connections to verbal numbers and numbers in print. Exploring colors in our environment. Focus on Color of the Month: Blue.

Pre-K 4

Religion - Unit 1 God Made the World: God Made My Helpers. The children will identify the many people who help them and appreciate them for this help. They will learn that God helps them through others and see Jesus as a helpful person. Prayer Buddy Visit: We will meet our Prayer Buddies from Miss Parney’s 4th grade class! PreK4 will meet with their Buddies each month to help them learn about each other and grow in our faith together. Our Prayer Buddies  will visit church during Buddy Mass 2 times each month with our older students helping to guide and mentor the younger students. 

Language/Literacy -  Unit 1 Week 4 - Friends working and playing together: “How do friends get along together?” Phonological awareness: blend/segment 2 syllable words. Alphabet Knowledge: differentiate uppercase/lowercase letters, identify letters. Listening Comprehension: expand word knowledge. Oral Language: understand meaning of words, retell a story. Concept words: afraid, happy, mad, mean, nice, sad. Amazing words: business, brave, rescue, accident, apologize, argue. Focus on Letter of the Week: Bb. Home/school connection - bring ‘B’ object from home. 

Corduroy the Bear home visits: Corduroy has enjoyed meeting all the children at school and is now curious about their lives outside the classroom! Corduroy will be taken home each Friday along with his journal and favorite book. Each child will get to spend 1 week with Corduroy and are encouraged to journal about their time with him. Journal entries may include photos, illustrations, and descriptions about what they did!  Objectives: promoting reading, pre-writing skills, using language to discuss personal experiences, enhancing listening skills, facilitating literacy development and social skills through group discussion. 

Social Studies - Identify places at our school. Our School Community: “Who are the workers in our school”? Children will meet the important workers in our school. They will learn about the jobs they do and visit where they work each day. Developing an understanding of our school community. 


Science - Gummy Bear Science. “How do gummy bears react to different liquids?” Making predictions, observations, and conclusions. Using language to express results. OWL: Good habits of personal health and hygiene. Identify our five senses. All people need food.

Math - Data analysis: sort objects and describe how groups are similar and different. Numbers & Operations: using verbal ordinal terms. Measuring using non-standard units. Gummy Bear Graphing: Graphic organizer: using a tool to organize and collect information. Data analysis: sorting by color. Math Words: more, less, and most. Focus on Color of the Month: Blue.

Music - Special Music and Movement Lesson with Mrs. Maria Schneider!

Preschool+Plus - Science: Ants! The children will learn about this insect’s body parts and discover how each are used. They will count the number of segments, antennae, and legs (Math) an insect has. They will create their own ant model (Art integration). Using hands on experiences the children will learn how ants communicate, carry food, eat, and smell! Ant Farm: They will make observations about how ants move, live, and eat in this contained environment. The children will go outside to identify where they live and observe ants in their natural environment. They will be involved in reading stories, singing songs, and learning rhymes about ants. (Literacy/Language integration)
