Welcome to Preschool at St. Joseph Catholic School!

I am so excited to be your child’s preschool teacher this year!

This is my ninth year at St. Joseph Catholic School and I am looking

forward to helping your child grow, and learn,

and have fun this year.

I have been a preschool teacher in Libertyville for over 25 years,

and am passionate about helping young children learn.

I believe children learn best with hands-on experiences and

help facilitate their many different learning styles

in a kind and nurturing setting.

We will have an amazing year together meeting new friends, sharing new

discoveries, and learning new skills everyday.

Our instructional aide, Mrs. Tina Truskowski, has much experience in the classroom

after being a aide at St. Joseph Catholic School for over 15 years!

Together, we help build positive relationships with children to help foster

growth and confidence in a caring classroom community.

We are both looking forward to sharing a wonderful year with your child.

Posts

Choice Time includes time to explore our classroom and project time with Mrs. Truskowski! Dot markers are a big hit this week!
This group loves Circle Time!❤️ Our story, Hands Can, showed us all the ways we use our hands each day! We brainstormed ways we use our own hands every day, such as waving, saying good bye, giving a high-five, coloring, playing with today, and hugging a friend!
God Made Me: I Can Touch! Preschool 3’s made Texture Collages today! We talked about how some felt rough (sandpaper), some felt slippery (foil) and some felt soft (cotton puffs). Look for these displayed in our classroom on Curriculum Night!
Wednesday’s mean Music with Mr. Showstead!🎶
Throughout our year, preschoolers will be introduced to many instruments! Today Mr. Showstead presented us with a keyboard that many said resembled a piano! Preschoolers enjoying trying to identify and sing along with several tunes he played including “Twinkle, Twinkle”, “Mary Had a Little Lamb”, and “Let it Go” from Frozen!
Music & Movement: Shake Your Sillies Out!
We jumped our jiggles out, wiggled our wiggles out, and clapped our crazies out! We love activities such as these for helping preschoolerslearn new concepts in a fun and engaging way!
Visiting the Small Playground! Recent rain had us using this area today! Preschoolers used the puddles of water to experiment using “wet chalk”! They decided it “glowed” and the water turned color, too! Future scientists here!

A is for Apple! During Letter Weeks, preschoolers create a letter book page! At the end of the school, the 26 pages are bound into a book for them to take home! We love our Letter Books for helping develop letter/sound relationships, phonemic awareness, and writing skills in our young learners!
We loved this special story about friendship today! Peanut Butter and Cupcake had us all laughing out loud! Finding a new friend can be hard, and how lucky we are to have 18 new friends right here!
This week’s earlier read about friendship continues to be a fave! Today, we painted our own stone to take home that will remind us  “Being a good friend rocks!”
Scissor Skill Practice! Preschoolers used bilateral coordination with each hand doing something different! Helper Hand holds and guides the paper, and Scissor Hand is aided by eye/hand coordination to cut on the dotted line! The children understood the STOP sign was where they stopped their cutting! Look for these in your folders tomorrow!
Math Circle.  Preschoolers were introduced to patterns today with one of our fave videos! Banana, Banana, Meatball! 🍌🍌!
Applying what we learned! Round of applause for this group! 👏 They recognized the pattern and assembled themselves in order to continue the rest of the pattern! Can you guess what our pattern was?
Preschool+Plus was introduced to wordless books today about one of my favorite characters, Carl the dog! The children were surprised to discover a book without words, but did an amazing job of “picture reading” our story! They took turns telling the story page by page, suing illustrations and their imagination to tell the tale!
Carl’s Summer Vacation was the perfect read to kick off our travel talk today!
Explor the library for author, Alexandra Day’s, other adventures about Carl! Great for helping develop verbal skills, creative thinking, comprehension, and new vocab!
Floor puzzles are HUGE for helping develop teamwork and collaboration! This was the perfect choice today as we began our week of maps! As the children work to assemble the puzzle, we painted out special locations, where various family lived, and where we traveled to! Great job, Preschool+Plus!
Using our pictures to share about ourself! The children enjoyed naming family/friends in pictures, describing what they did on their trips, and even what the temperature was where they visited! This bunch used great communication skills!
