Religion - Unit 2 - “God Made Me Good - I Can Clean”. The children will know that we care for things by cleaning. They will learn ways that they can clean.The children will understand the significance of taking care of toys and materials in their classroom.

Social Studies - Me Bags: Learning about our friends at school in order to help facilitate development of relationships with peers. Verbalizing/understanding feelings.
Language/Literacy - Enjoy listening to and talking about storybooks. Begin an understanding that print carries meaning. Participate in our seasonal rhyming poems and songs. Religion - Unit 1 God Made the World: God Made the Bible. The children will express an understanding that the Bible is God’s book. They will treat the Bible with respect and love. Preschoolers will answer questions about a story from the Bible. They will show a desire to speak to God.
Language/Literacy - “Alphabet Rescue” Phonological awareness: blend syllables. Sort words by number of syllables. Onset and rime. Alphabet Knowledge: differentiate uppercase/lowercase letters, identify letters. Listening Comprehension: expand word knowledge. Oral Language: understand meaning of words, retell a story. Heggerty: Phonological awareness/listening comprehension: discriminate and sequence environmental sounds, respond appropriately. Writing: writing our names. Listening comprehension: expanding word knowledge, following directions. Oral language: expand understanding. Students will gain an understanding of rhyme by hearing and repeating rhyming word pairs. Students will isolate the initial sound in spoken words with focused consonant sounds. Students will learn to blend two words into a compound word. Social Studies - Scholastic My BIG World with Clifford: “Firefighters are Brave! What are some of the tools they use to help them be heroes?” Health and Safety Focus: fire safety. Social Studies Focus: community helpers. Theme Vocabulary: heroes, gear, tool, breathing mask, helmet, hose, ladder, siren. Skills: group discussion, critical thinking, vocabulary, categorizing.
**Firefighter In-class Field Trip! Firefighters from the Libertyville Fire Department will visit! They will be involved in guiding us through the steps of what to do when there is a fire, and help the children learn how to prevent fires. Firefighters will teach us the importance of staying safe in an emergency, and what number to call if we need emergency assistance. They will describe the tools and equipment they wear, and show how their firefighter gear keeps them safe.
Science: “Is it hot or is it cold?” Preschoolers will be introduced to temperature vocabulary words, such as frigid, boiling, scorching, frozen. Preschoolers will identify items and sort them by being either hot or cold! Cause and effect: They will gain an understanding of how temperature can cause change and see its effect through hands-on observations.
Math - Number & Operations - Count up to 10 items, understand that order of counting does not change the number, use concrete models and make word problems for adding up to 5 objects. Shape Focus: Square

World Travelers - Traveling to Egypt. The children will be introduced to the culture of this country. They will learn about the Great Pyramids and attempt to recreate these geometric shapes using various materials. The children will discover the symbol language of heiroglyphics and make their own name cartouche. Preschoolers will investigate preservation of apples in Mummy Science
