PreK 3

Religion - Unit 3 -”God Made Me Happy - I Can Sing”. The children will express an understanding that a song can be a prayer. They will thank God the Father for the gift of song. The children will learn about Mary and the angels.

Science -  Happy Harvest: Life on the Farm. The children will begin to learn about life on the farm as we discuss foods farmers grow, animals that live on a farm, and the autumn harvest. Me Bags (cont’d). We will conduct our Magic Milk experiment, using an ingredient that comes from a farm!

Social Studies - I Am Thankful. The children will begin an understanding of what it means to be thankful and grateful.  They will learn about the First Thanksgiving celebration between the Pilgrims and the Native Americans and realize this is the event we celebrate.

Literacy/Language - Seasonal songs, rhymes, and stories to help foster auditory memory, sequencing, and build oral language skills.  Focus Letter of the Week:  Hh. Home/school connection: Bring an item that begins with Hh.

Math- Sorting/Matching. Sort shapes by characteristics. Match same shapes of varying sizes. Color Focus of the Month: Brown.

PreK 4

Religion - Unit 2: God Made Holy Things. God Made Food.  The children will be grateful for the food God gives us.  They will learn that the Mass is a festive meal and desire to feed those who are hungry. The Gratitude Game -We will continue our discussion on the many blessings in our lives with this hands-on activity as we prepare for the Thanksgiving holiday. Preschoolers look forward to sharing this game with our Prayer Buddies this week.

ScienceH is for Hopping Corn Experiment! At the First Thanksgiving, the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag Indians celebrated the autumn harvest, which included corn. The children will investigate various kinds of corn, learn how corn grows, and it’s history (Native American children ate popcorn as a breakfast cereal!) and team up for a Hopping Corn experiment! 

Social Studies  - Scholastic My BIG World with Clifford: “Hello, Turkey! What kind of an animal is a turkey?” Science Focus: animal characteristics. Theme Vocabulary: beak, wings, feathers, hatch. Skills We’re Practicing: group discussion, critical thinking, vocabulary, gross-motor skills, number recognition. 

Literacy -  Unit 2 - Week 5: Review - On our way to K! Phonological awareness: segment sentences, blend and segment 2 syllable words, delete a word from  a compound word  Alphabet Knowledge: identify uppercase letters, name letters, differentiate uppercase/lowercase letters. Comprehension: answer questions about a book, retell a story. Oral Language: use language in a discussion, respond appropriately.  Letter Focus of the Week: Hh. Home/school connection: Bring an item that begins with Hh. 

**Little Red Hen Literacy Study. Preschoolers will be involved in story sequencing activities: sequencing characters and events of a story. They will be introduced to using a venn diagram to compare differences/similarities of “The Little Red Hen” using two different texts.

Math - Geometry: examine and sort a variety of solid shapes, naming sphere & prism. Use location words to describe location of objects. Number & Operations: demonstrate that order of counting sequence is always the same, subtracting 1-4 objects from a set of 4. One to one correspondence.  Color Focus of the Month: Brown.

Prayer Buddy Mass

Poppin’ in for Popcorn Fun. Popcorn science: Preschoolers will begin to develop an understanding of matter. They will learn that a physical change is one that affects an object’s size or shape. The children will observe the physical change that occurs when heat is added to popcorn, air is added to a balloon, and cold is added to water. They will use their 5 senses to examine and describe popped corn. Popcorn math: Preschoolers will begin to understand that volume is the amount of space occupied by an object. They will make comparisons between the volume of unpopped vs. popped corn. Popcorn literacy: The children will identify matching lower/uppercase letters. They will gain experience writing letters.
