Religion - Chapter 24: I Can Pretend. God gave us the gift of imagination. The children will exercise their imaginations. They will thank God for their ability to pretend. The children will enjoy the lesson.

Social Studies - Kindness in our classroom community. Words that hurt and words that help. Cotton words vs. sandpaper words. We will read “Chrysanthemum”, Kevin Henkes.

Language/Literacy - Rhymes: building phonological awareness. Letter knowledge: matching letters. Identifying letters in our name. Focus on Letter of the Week: Vv.

Math - Comparing objects: similarities & differences. Matching to build one to one correspondence. Counting to 10.

Religion - God Made Surprises: God Made Butterflies. The children will marvel at the special wonders of the earth. They will praise and thank God. The children will know that forms of life change.Seeds Lesson Theme: Jesus is Risen. The children will recognize that love and peace are the best gifts. The children will recognize that Jesus brings peace. They will recognize the Church seasons. They will also recognize eggs and lilies as signs of new life. They will color an Easter egg, and create an Easter booklet.

Science - “How does a butterfly grow?” Life cycle of a butterfly. Lake County Forest Preserve in-school Field Trip: Butterflies. Children will “fly” through a series of activities to learn what makes butterflies and moths different. This hands-on program will let them experience the metamorphosis of these fragile animals first hand. They will be learn the differences between butterflies and moths, and be introduced to new vocabulary such as metamorphosis, chrysalis, and symmetry.

OWL - Unit 5 Week 3. A Trip to the Desert: “What is a desert?”. Alphabet Knowledge: Recognize and produce sounds, name letters. Phonological Awareness: delete onset in words, combine onset and rime, produce rhyming words. Oral Language: participate in discussion, respond appropriately, demonstrate understanding of the meaning of words. Writing: Write own name using upper/lowercase letters. Motivation to Read: engage in prereading and reading-related activities.

Math - Geometry: naming shapes. Patterns: Recognize, extends, & create patterns. Number & Operations: share up to 10 items, combining numbers. Concept of more or less. Estimating. Writing numbers 1-10.

Earth Day Upcycle Art

World Traveler - Summer at the Beach!! Ahoy, Maties! Get ready to hit the high seas for adventure during our May month-long study of all things OCEAN!  Our seafarers will be introduced to concepts and features of the beach and ocean, including properties of salt water. Preschoolers will be introduced to new vocabulary such as fluke, anemone, and tide. They will  identify and classify sea animals. We will integrate skills such as addition, by playing the fun game, “Get on My Boat”! This week before setting sail, we will explore the coastal area, and conduct an up-close investigation of seashells,  learn who inhabits the sandy shoreline, and explore properties of sand.
