Welcome to Preschool at St. Joseph Catholic School!

I am so excited to be your child’s preschool teacher this year!

This is my sixth year at St. Joseph Catholic School and I am looking

forward to helping your child grow, and learn,

and have fun this year.

I have been a preschool teacher in Libertyville for over 25 years,

and am passionate about helping young children learn.

I believe children learn best with hands-on experiences and

help facilitate their many different learning styles

in a kind and nurturing setting.

We will have an amazing year together meeting new friends, sharing new

discoveries, and learning new skills everyday.

Our instructional aide, Mrs. Tina Truskowski, has much experience in the classroom

after being a aide at St. Joseph Catholic School for over 15 years!

Together, we help build positive relationships with children to help foster

growth and confidence in a caring classroom community.

We are both looking forward to sharing a wonderful year with your child.

Gummy Bear Science
Preschoolers has so much fun discovering the changes that occurred overnight and found that many of their predictions were spot on! Some bears grew (those in water grew the most), some bears disappeared (vinegar seemed to dissolve the bears), and change the color of the water (lemonade)! This was a bear-y fun science experiment!
Fairy tale fun with Mrs. Hoglund!
Preschoolers were introduced to Little Red Riding Hood, The Gingerbread Man, and Goldilocks and the Three Bears using literature, computers, and video!
World Travelers are Out of this World! Our topic today was the Sun, however preschoolers were in the dark :) before the big reveal. They watched NASA footage of the Sun which, if you can tell by their expressions, was amazing! Many thought they were watching fire, some said it was lava, and a view guessed it was the Sun! Preschoolers learned that the Sun is a burning star, not a planet! It gives us heat, light, and food!
Hands-on science exploration!
In small groups, preschoolers used eye-hand coordination and teamworkto guide their Earth around the Sun!
Day and Night! We discussed how the Earth orbits the Sun, and even though we can’t feel it, the Earth is constantly rotating! To help preschoolers gain a better understanding of this concept, we set up our own orbit (Hula-Hoop), and had planet Earth (Dominick) revolve around the Sun (Gio)!
Throughout the school year, preschoolers have been introduced to various kinds of graphic organizers. Today, we used a tree map to collect and display facts we know/have learned about the Sun ☀️!
Solar System Art ☀️ Such a fun painting process! Preschoolers first used plastic wrap to mix together paints to cover the Sun. They then used cotton swabs dipped in paint to emulate the Sun’s rays.
Teddy Bear Exploration 🐻🐻
loved the independence here as the preschoolers used non-standard units to measure their Bear! Through experience, they understand the concept of measuring from end to end, counting the units, and recording the amount!
Loved the math language we heard during this activity! “Your Bear is the same cubes tall as mine is!” Here’s our three 19 cubes tall bears!🐻🐻🐻
Sorting Bears by Size 🐻🐻🐻
Preschoolers had fun graphing their Teddy Bears using 3 categories: small, medium, and large!
Gummy Bear Science! This preschoolers proved to be true scientists today with this experiment! They used their 5 senses to first investigate items they would be testing! They used language to describe how the liquids looked or smelled, how the gummy bears felt or appeared. The children made incredible predictions about what they thought would happen after placing their bears in the 3 liquids! “They will disappear (dissolve)”, “They will get bigger”, “They will get smaller”, “The water will turn color of the bear”, “The bear will change color”, “The bear will get gooey”! Love these!  Preschoolers checked on their experiment after Music with not too much to report. They decided to wait til tomorrow to check again!                     **Stay tuned to find out what predictions were correct!
Teddy Bear Tea 🐻   Yummy Teddy Treats, made from graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate chips, and “Tea” (apple juice) were the perfect snacks to share with our bears today!

Our Bears joined us for some special music & movement including Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear Turn Around, and Look Out the Bears Coming! 🐻
