Pre K 4 scientists are bringing home "Snowflake Identification Kits" today.  They will keep them handy so they can gather information the next time it snows! 

Week at a Glance January 9 - January 13

PreK 3

Religion - Unit 3: God Made Me Happy - “I Can Celebrate”. We celebrate good things from God. The celebration in this unit will prepare children for liturgical celebrations and also give them an appreciation of an aspect of creation: the color green, which stands for life.

Social Studies - Cold weather exploration. Snow.

Math - Spatial awareness: recognizing spatial relationships among people and objects.

Language/Literacy - Building letter knowledge through review of letters Aa - Kk. Raising letter print awareness through games and activities both in large/small group. Focus on Letter of the week: Ll.

PreK 4

Religion - Unit 3: God Made the Earth - “God Made Color”. This lesson prepares the children to understand the liturgical colors used in Church worship. The children will realize that God designed the world full of color. They will appreciate the many colors in the world and understand that various colors mean different things. Seeds: Feast of the Epiphany. The children will listen to the Epiphany story and will complete their nativity scenes by adding the Magi figures.

Science - Snowflakes. Weather/temperature: How are snowflakes formed? Observation/discussion of various shapes, characteristics of snowflakes. Examination: making “snow-kits” for up-close investigation. Experimentation: Snow Storm in a Jar.

Literacy - OWL - Unit 4 - Week 1: Welcome to the Farm - “What is a farm?”. Beginning sounds. Letter naming: uppercase & lowercase. Focus on Letter of the week: Ll. Review: onset and rime, rhyming words. Concept words: animal, barn, farmer, food, land, plant. Amazing words: turkey, wagon, pen, wool, gate, yard.

Math - Cardinality - last number counted is total. Number & operations: count in any order. Data analysis: use of graphic organizer to collect and organize data. Geometry: create new shapes.



Pre K 4s measured Gingerbread Men using non standard measuring tools. Marshmallows, uniblocks, buttons and Cheerios! 
Pre K 3s delivered candy canes today to the support staff at St. Joe's! Thank you for all you do for us and Merry Christmas! 
Happy Birthday Benjamin!!! Thank you so much for the beautiful owl cookies, and grapes. Such a special treat.

Religion - Special Lesson: Christmas. The children will know that Christmas is Jesus’ birthday. They will learn that Christmas is primarily a religious feast - a celebration of love, and the reason for the season.

Specials - The children will participate in Media wil Mrs. Hoglund and Music with Mr. Showstead this week.
 
PreK 4
 
Religion - Special Lesson: Christmas. The children will know the Christmas story. They will be grateful that Jesus came to earth. They will enjoy making a Christmas decoration.
 
Science - Grinch Dust! - Color mixing: blue and yellow - predicting/observing change in materials. Gumdrop Science - Let's record our observations. Were our predictions from Friday correct?
 

Literacy  - Gingerbread Man comparative study. Use of Venn diagrams to compare difference and similarities in literature.

Math - Graphing: Favorite Gingerbread Man story. Use of conventional tools to measure. Following directions and sequencing. Fractions and wholes.

Fun with gumdrop science! Making predictions of what will happen when we place gumdrops in different liquids. Vinegar, hot water, cold water. What will happen?
