Pre-K 3


Religion - Unit 2 - “God Made Me Good - I Can Clean”. The children will know that we care for things by cleaning. They will learn ways that they can clean.The children will understand the significance of taking care of toys and materials in their classroom.


Social Studies - Me Bags: learning about our friends at school to help facilitate development of relationships. Building/supporting friendships in the classroom.


Science - Fall Fun: constructing knowledge about seasonal changes from hands-on activities, explorations. Leaves. The children will become aware of the various colors leaves can change and the variety of shapes a leaf can be..


Language/Literacy - Phonological awareness: activities to help build rhyming, vocabulary, patterning.


Math - Matching: matching like items using visual discrimination. Focus on color of the month: Orange.


Pre-K 4

Religion -Unit 2: God Made Music. The children will know that song and music can praise God. They will enjoy singing and playing instruments. The children will be proud of their musical abilities. Seed; Jesus is our friend. The children will celebrate their uniqueness. They will hear Jesus’ word of friendship. The children will recognize their families bring them to Jesus.

Science - Bats and Caves. Lake County Forest Preserve In-School Field Trip. “How do bats live”? The children will discover the intriguing world of bats, the only flying mammal! They will learn about the unique adaptations that help bats hunt for mosquitoes and other insects in the dark.and that bats are nocturnal animals that use echolocation to see in the dark. What sounds are you able to identify and hear if you were a bat?

Social Studies - Scholastic My BIG World: Let’s Have a Fire Drill! There is no fire during a fire drill. We are just practicing what to do if there ever is a real fire. Knowing what to do helps keep us safe. Health and Safety Focus: fire safety. Class Discussion: critical thinking. Vocabulary Theme Words: fire drill, gear, listen, practice. Math: number recognition. The children will be introduced to safety skills such as dialing “911” and Stop, Drop, and Roll.

Language/Literacy Concepts of Print. Phonological awareness: segment sentences, delete word from a compound word, segment words, rhyming. Alphabet knowledge: concept of a letter, letter naming. Shared book reading: responding appropriately during book discussion. Oral language: demonstrate meaning of words. Letter review Aa-Ee.

Math - Numbers and Operations: use a model for subtracting 1-5/adding up to 5 objects, know objects can be counted, count with one count per item, demonstrate that last count is how many, sequencing numbers 1-10. Writing numbers 1-5. Data analysis: sort objects and describe similarities and differences between groups. Focus on shape of the month: Square. Color of the month: Orange.

Preschool+Plus -

Science: Cavernous Caves - Cave crystals experiment. The children will be involved in measuring, mixing, making observations as we grow crystals in our “cave-like” surrounding. They will explore cave environments and discover what living things make a cave their habitat. We will use books to collect data and information about caves.

Book Club: “Room on the Broom”, by Julia Donaldson. This Halloween selection will involve the children in  story sequencing, story retelling using recurring phrases, rhymes, and ordinal numbers. The children will learn new information during repeated readings.
