Welcome to Preschool at St. Joseph Catholic School!

I am so excited to be your child’s preschool teacher this year!

This is my sixth year at St. Joseph Catholic School and I am looking

forward to helping your child grow, and learn,

and have fun this year.

I have been a preschool teacher in Libertyville for over 25 years,

and am passionate about helping young children learn.

I believe children learn best with hands-on experiences and

help facilitate their many different learning styles

in a kind and nurturing setting.

We will have an amazing year together meeting new friends, sharing new

discoveries, and learning new skills everyday.

Our instructional aide, Mrs. Tina Truskowski, has much experience in the classroom

after being a aide at St. Joseph Catholic School for over 15 years!

Together, we help build positive relationships with children to help foster

growth and confidence in a caring classroom community.

We are both looking forward to sharing a wonderful year with your child.

Today we read The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin. Spookley is a square pumpkin. All the other pumpkins teased him until Spookley proved being different can save the day!!

Week at a Glance October 10-14

PreK3

Religion - Unit 2 - “God Made Me Good - I Can Care”. The children will know that God cares for the world. They will realize their responsibility to take care for things of nature and importance of taking care of themselves. The children will understand the significance of taking care of toys and materials in their classroom.

Science - Observations of the growth and change of our Indian corn to understand that a seed grows into a plant. Begin to understand that all plants need water and light.

Social Studies - Fire Safety. Community helpers: Firefighters.

Language/Literacy - Interactive reading emphasizing beginning, middle, end of story. Concepts of print: making predictions. Letter review Aa-Ee.

Math -Naming basic colors. Matching basic shapes. Focus on Square.

PreK 4

Religion - “Unit 2 - God Made Holy Things - God Made Music”. The children will know that song and music can praise God. They will enjoy singing and playing instruments. And be proud of their musical abilities. Seeds - Jesus Wants Us to Grow. The children will recognize the growth they see around them and experience in themselves.

Science - Exploding Elephant Toothpaste Experiment. Working in pairs, children will work together following directions as they measure, mix, and prepare their experiments. Ask us what reactions were observed after adding colorful catalysts to our solutions.

Social Studies - My Big World - “Big Bumpy Pumpkin - What can we make from this pumpkin?”

Literacy - Concepts of Print: book handling, tracking print, features of print. Story review: retelling stories. Letter review Aa-Ee.

Math - Numbers and Operations: recognizing numbers numerals 1-5. Counting objects 1-10. Rote counting. Focus on shape of the month: Square.

Fox and Trove came to visit our PreK 3s and introduced us to Harry and Poppy. They taught us the importance of kindness and being brave. We all made Kindness Kites and flew them in the park! Thank you Fox and Trove!
