Welcome to Preschool at St. Joseph Catholic School!

I am so excited to be your child’s preschool teacher this year!

This is my ninth year at St. Joseph Catholic School and I am looking

forward to helping your child grow, and learn,

and have fun this year.

I have been a preschool teacher in Libertyville for over 25 years,

and am passionate about helping young children learn.

I believe children learn best with hands-on experiences and

help facilitate their many different learning styles

in a kind and nurturing setting.

We will have an amazing year together meeting new friends, sharing new

discoveries, and learning new skills everyday.

Our instructional aide, Mrs. Tina Truskowski, has much experience in the classroom

after being a aide at St. Joseph Catholic School for over 15 years!

Together, we help build positive relationships with children to help foster

growth and confidence in a caring classroom community.

We are both looking forward to sharing a wonderful year with your child.

A is for Apple, Alien, Alligator, Anchor.....
Preschool+Plus will build an ABC Letter Book this year that focuses on letter sounds. They did an awesome job of coloring each object that begins with Letter A!
Our story, “This Little Light of Mine”, reminded us that our light shines so bright when we do something kind, thoughtful, or helpful. The children told us how they let their own light shine:
Peyton - Help my Dad water the garden.
Natalie - Help my Mom make chocolate chip cookies.
Madison - Help my Mom wash the tomatoes from our garden.
Al - Help my Grandma fold clothes.
Avelyn - Help my Mom garden, water the plants, and dig the holes for the plants.
Vivian - Help my sister get on the top bunk bed.
Elle - Coloring pictures on paper for my Mom.
Ben - Help my Mom put clothes in the washing machine.
Thomas - Help my Mom make brownies with chocolate chips.
William - Help my landscapers by sitting on my lawn mower.

Bearing our bracelets gave us lots of practice helping to develop eye hand coordination and fine motor sKills!
Religion Lesson: God Made Me. The children learned that they are precious in God’s sight. They are each special and can do wonderful things. When we do our best and are kind and helpful, we let our light shine. Preschoolers beaded bracelets with Glow-in-the dark beads to always remember to let their light shine!🌟
Scissor Skills Intro  ✂️  Preschoolers learned how to hold, use, and store these important tools today. We listed what scissors are used for, and what they are NOT used for. Preschoolers practiced using our helper hand to hold the paper, and staying on the line as we cut! Using scissors requires bilateral coordination (as does zipping a coat), which requires both hands to complete a separate task. A total win today! 👏👏👏👏
Preschool Science is all about healthy hand washing! We watched a terrific video on germs and hand washing today from Scholastic!
PreK Religion: I Can Touch. We read a wonderful story called “Hands Can”, and brainstormed all the things we can do with our hands! We discussed how hands are for loving and made a big handprint heart! Our Religion sheet had preschoolers identifying objects that were hot by ‘x’ing them out.
I’m in love with their teamwork & cooperation on just the FIRST full day of preschool! ❤️
One of our favorite reads in preschool fits in perfectly with our religion lesson this week, God Made Me! The children learned that each of us our special, and different, and that God loves them all! Our story opened up discussions about how our skin color, hair color, and eye color is different.
Cause when God made YOU, somehow God knew
That the world needed someone exactly like you!
Shining Stars🌟 What an amazing Religion Lesson this turned out to be, beginning with someone asking “What is Religion?”. God knows that you all are precious, and calls you by name.
