PreK 3

Religion: Unit 1: God Made Me Live: I Can Touch. We will learn about the advantage of our ability to feel and know that God made the many textures of our world. God reaches us and speaks to us through our senses, including the sense of touch.

Social Studies: Our Classroom Community: Reverse Classroom Scavenger Hunt. Exploring our new environment - helping children get to know their classroom. Building positive relationships in the classroom.

Science: Sense of Touch. We will use our sense of touch to explore and compare different textures in our classroom and outdoors. Guessing Bags: identifying items through our sense of touch. Texture collage.

Literacy/Language: Building listening skills during shared reading. Alphabet Song: making visual connections to the alphabet in print. Recognizing our names in print. Focused Letter Study: Aa.

Math: Observation: Using the senses. Observing is the first step in gathering and organizing information.  Children use their senses to observe.  When given a collection of items, the children will use their five senses to classify the objects.

Religion: Unit 1 - God Made People: God Made Me. The children will express an understanding that God the Father made all people. They will show gratitude that God made them. The children will grow in self-esteem. They will show respect for all people. 

Social StudiesScholastic My BIG World with Clifford: Big Red Apple. “Mmm, mmm! Crunch a big red apple. What do you see inside?”  Science Focus: apple study • Theme Vocabulary: stem, skin, flesh, pips • Phonological Awareness: rhyming • Phonics: beginning sounds.

Literacy/Language: Literacy/Language: Unit 1 - Week 1: “What makes each of us special?” Learning Goals -  Alphabet knowledge: recognize letters, concept of a letter, distinguish between letters and non-letters. Phonological awareness/listening comprehension: discriminate and sequence environmental sounds, respond appropriately. Writing: writing our names. Listening comprehension: expanding word knowledge, following directions. Oral language: expand understanding of concepts. Concept words: boy, classroom, different, girl, grow, same. Amazing words: favorite, frown, grin, confuse, exciting, nervous. Focused Letter Study: Aa.

MathLet’s start counting. Counting with Ollie.  Geometry: sorting materials into similar and different groups, flat shapes - circle. Number & Operations: know that items can be counted, count with one count per item, count up to 5 items, recognize colors, the order of counting is always the same. 

Science: Apple Taste Test - Scientists use the scientific method Using our sense of taste as we compare various apples. Data analysis: graphing our favorites.

STEM: An inquiry-based approach to learning that integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, Math. Chicka-Chicka, Boom-Boom. “Can you build an alphabet tree?” How many letters can it hold? We will have fun as the children are challenged to use their problem-solving skills as they combine activities in science, technology, engineering, math...and literacy!!

Preschool+Plus

Little Knights Book Club: “A is for Alligator”. Preschoolers will be involved in various phonological awareness skills: identifying syllables, counting and segmenting syllables. They will create their own alligator using mixed-media. “Oliver and his Alligator”, by Paul Schmid: a wonderful story to help ease our preschoolers with their own transitions.
