I am excited to be a part of the St. Joseph Catholic School community as the new full day preschool teacher working with four year olds. I look forward to being a part of such a positive and caring academic community where body, mind and spirit are nurtured and developed.

Although I earned my education degree in Ohio, I have been a preschool teacher in Libertyville for the last 20 years and at St. Joseph Catholic School for the last 5 years. I am excited to begin my 6th year at St. Joseph teaching preschool. I love teaching preschool children and seeing the world through their eyes. I believe a warm and loving environment both encourages children to learn as well as helps them gain self-confidence. I am a strong believer in learning through play as well as hands on learning to help foster a child’s creativity and development. I look forward to a positive, loving, and wonderful year with your child!

This morning, we read this book from Jan Thomas, our featured Afternoon Enrichment author of the month. It was a funny story featuring Sheep and his friends as they guess what makes Sheep happy. His friends, of course! Then the children journaled about their friends at school for their memory books.

We read more from the Pope's book this morning. Did you know that he loves soccer? When he was growing up the Pope wanted to be a butcher! He also explained what we are like in heaven - beautiful, splendid and full of light. What a wonderful book to share with the children as we got to know Pope Francis!

We love puzzles! The children were so excited at their accomplishment whe the pouzzle was complete! Such awesome teamwork!

Update to Afternoon Enrichment - Thursday

We will continue our author study of Jan Thomas by reading Is Everyone Ready for Fun? Chicken has some unexpected and exuberant cow visitors who have exciting plans for jumping, dancing, and wiggling on his teeny-tiny couch, and Chicken is none too happy about it. That is until the fun concludes with a quiet, cozy and delicious nap for all! The children will journal about what they would do on the red couch for fun. We will also be playing dust bunny rhyming games to produce and identify rhyme.

Afternoon Enrichment started new math stations today. We had Scoop and Count. This activity had the children scooping unifix cubes into cups and counting how many were collected. Frame It had the children making pattern frames for a variety of pictures. They children had to record the color and count of each color on their recording sheets. Shapes Around Us had the children filling in real pictures with squares and counting the amount used. Sorting Shapes by 3,4,or 6 sides as well as square corners/not square corners was our final table. The children will rotate through all of these tables in the coming weeks.

Legos are so much fun! While working with Legos, preschoolers practice teamwork and communication, patience and organisational skills, constructive problem solving and lateral thinking, adventure and experimentation, fine motor skills development, increased spatial awareness, better focus and concentration.

At our blue table today, the children stamped out the beginning letter to the beginning sound for each picture. The children are awesome letter sound identifiers! Thank you Mrs. Kritenbrink, our center helper today!

We played Syllable Bingo as we counted out the syllables in words. Afterwards, we sorted the words on syllable counting mats 2 - 5.

Non-standard measurement was a fun activity this morning. We found different sized butterflies around the room and measured them with our bee rulers. We had to find the biggest butterfly and color it on our recording sheets.

The children loved playing with the purple Play-doh to stamp out their first and last names.

Isabelle was counting Easter eggs and bunnies using the tweezers! Awesome counting Isabelle! Anna and Loic love to cut at the Easter Puzzle 1- 10. We also finished up our bunny hats today. So cute!

We started to read Dear Pope Francis by Pope Francis. We discussed who the Pope is and his role in our Church. Did you know that the Pope loves to pray in lots of places besides Church and he loves to dance? We will be enjoying this book for a few days.

Which number is greater? When we put the numbers in relation to something the children love (candy), it was easy to find the larger number! Yum!

Our religion lesson today was about the meaning of Easter. We enjoyed reading The Story of Easter by Patricia Pingry. It is a lovely story for little ones to learn about the miraculous story of the first Easter. We also learned the meaning behind the colors of jelly beans. The children all took a copy of the Jelly Bean Prayer home today!

We love dancing the Bunny Hokey Pokey in Preschool!
