Welcome to Little Knights Preschool

 at St. Joseph Catholic School!

Called to Discipleship: Be Christ’s Light

I am excited to be a part of the St. Joseph Catholic School community as the new full day preschool teacher working with four year olds. I look forward to being a part of such a positive and caring academic community where body, mind and spirit are nurtured and developed.

Although I earned my education degree in Ohio, I have been a preschool teacher in Libertyville for the last 20 years and at St. Joseph Catholic School for the last 5 years.  I am excited to begin my 6th year at St. Joseph teaching preschool.  I love teaching preschool children and seeing the world through their eyes. I believe a warm and loving environment both encourages children to learn as well as helps them gain self-confidence. I am a strong believer in learning through play as well as hands on learning to help foster a child’s creativity and development. I look forward to a positive, loving, and wonderful year with your child!

The boys and girls made their own cute polar bears.  They painted with forks! This was fun, but a bit harder than painting with a paintbrush.   After they added the ears nose and eyes we had a class full of cute polar bears!
A polar bear paw print can be 12 inches across. The boys and girls took turn predicting how many of our footprints could fit into a polar bear print.   We could fit 11!
Polar Bear Day!   We watched a video about Arctic animals including the Polar Bear.  We learned their skin is black and they have thick white fur.  They also have  a thick layer of fat or blubber which keeps them warm.  The boys and girls put their hand in icy water without any layer of fat and felt how how cold it was.  We then added a thick layer of blubber or fat between 2 ziploc bags.  When the boys and girls used this as a glove and put their ha d it the water they  were able to feel how much warmer their hand was.
Mrs Hoglund has been busy setting up the Media Center for the Book Fair next week so we couldn’t go up there this morning.  she ca e down to our room and read us a cute snow book and showed us some pictures of beautiful snowflakes.
Penguins are covered in feathers.  They spare able to stay dry in the cold wet Climate they  live in, because their feathers have a waxy covering.  the boys and girls were each given 2 feathers.  They colored one feather with several layers of crayon.  The other feather they didn’t color at all.   When water was sprayed on the feathers, they saw firsthand that the feather without crayon soaked through.  The water did not soak through the feather with crayon as the wax protected the feather.   This is how penguins stay dry and warm.
Penguin Day! Today we learned about penguins.  The boys and girls saw first hand how hard it is to waddle like a penguin.  The had to try to walk with a ball between their legs.  They found they couldn’t walk very fast.  Penguins are great swimmers and use their fins/wings to swim very fast in the water.   Clifford the Dog came and brought amScholastic Magazine about penguins.  We learned there are 17 different types of penguins.
We did a Directed Drawing of a snowman.  The boys and girls had to copy what I was doing on the board.  They all did a great job following directions and made some great snowmen!
This afternoon the boys and girls did another wrote the room matching upper and lower case letters.  This was difficult as they had to match upper and lower case letters and find them on their page….not in letter order.
The boys and girls used their fine motor skills and made beautiful mosaics of their names.  We laminated the final results and will hang them in the hallway.  We are so grateful God made such beautiful colors for us to use.
God. Add Color was our Religion lesson today.  We took a vote of our favorite color.  Yellow won the race with 7 votes!  The boys and girls then completed their religion magazine and activity.
The boys and girls did a hard Write the Room.  They had to look around the room for winter words and find the picture on their sheet and write the word.  They did such a great job!  We were proud of them
