Peek At Our Week January 17 - January 21, 2022

MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY
Religion: Unit 4: God Made the Earth: God Made Color. The children will state that God the Father designed the world full of color. The children will express an appreciation for the many colors in the world and will explain the different colors and signify different things.
Language/Literacy: We will work on upper and lower case letters and beginning sounds. Phonological awareness: produce words that begin with the same sounds. Rhyming words. Use of prepositional words. The children continue to work on recognizing and writing their last names.
Math: Number and operations: use concrete models to make 5. Adding one more to solve a problem. Making directional patterns. Cardinality - last number counted in total. Solid shapes vs. flat shapes. Review: naming flat shapes. Focus Shape: OVAL
Social Studies: Scholastic: My BIG World Clifford: “A Funny Bird”. Science Focus: animal behavior and adaptations. ThemeVocabulary Words: flippers, beak, webbed feet, feathers, waterproof, Vocabulary: using visuals. Math: counting.
Science: How do penguins stay warm in the cold Antarctica weather? Their feathers have a coating on them which keeps them dry. The children will observe this for themselves as they take 2 paper feathers. They will color one feather with a crayon. They will spray both feathers with water and watch what happens. The feather with the wax coating will cause the weather to bead and not soak the feather.
Afternoon Enrichment
Monday: NO SCHOOL. MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY
Tuesday: Letter Review A-N. The children will continue to work on their upper and lower case letter recognition, letter sounds as well as rhyming skills.
Wednesday: The children will review 2D and 3D shapes. We will continue to work on patterning and sequencing.
Thursday: "Bushel of Books" We will read The Snowy Nap by Jan Brett. We will discuss the setting, characters and sequence of events. We will sort words from the story by how many syllables are in them. We will "Write the Room" with words from the story to practice look and copy skills.
Friday: The children will make a snowflake using materials found in the classroom. The snowflake will need to be symmetrical. The children will also make Snow Dough...a soft, warm alternative to real snow.
