Peek At Our Week September 9 - September 13
Religion: Unit 1: God Made the World: God Made My Helpers. The children will identify the many people who help them and they will appreciate them for this help. They will learn that God helps them through others and see Jesus as a helpful person.
Prayer Buddies: We have met our 4th grade Prayer Buddies from Mrs. Binkley's class. They have helped us fill out our prayer requests for the Rosary Launch and we cheered them on as they ran the Spirit Run this past Friday. We will meet with them every month and beginning in November we will begin attending Buddy Mass with them each month. The older students will help to guide and mentor the younger students.
Language/Literacy: Unit 1 Week 4 - Friends working and playing together: "How do friends get along together?" Phonological awareness: blend/segment 2 syllable words. Alphabet Knowledge: differentiate uppercase/lowercase letter, identify letters. Listening Comprehension: expand word knowledge. Oral Language: understand meaning of words, retell a story. Concept words: afraid, happy, mad, mean, nice, sad. Amazing words: business, brave, rescue, accident, apologize, argue. Focus letter of the week: Bb. home/school connection: bring an "B" object from home.
**The class will meet Scruffy the Bear. He is a friendly and lovable bear that wants to spend time with the boys and girls in the class. Beginning next week each child will get to spend 1 week with Scruffy and are encouraged to journal about their time with him. Journal entries may include pictures, drawings, descriptions of what he did during his visit.
Objectives: promoting reading, pre-writing skills, using language to discuss personal experiences, enhance listening skills, facilitating literacy development and social skills through group discussion.
Social Studies: Welcoming new friends in the classroom. Our School Community: "Who are the workers in our school?" Children will meet the important workers in our school. They will learn about the jobs they do and visit where they work each day. Developing an understanding of our school community.
Science: Gummy Bear Science. "How do gummy bears react in different liquids?" Making predictions, observations, and conclusions. Using language to express results. OWL: good habits of personal hygiene and health. Identify our five senses.
Math: Data analysis: sort objects and describe how groups are similar and different. Numbers and Operations: using verbal ordinal terms.
Music: Special music and movement lesson with Mrs. Maria Schneider!!
Afternoon Enrichment:
Monday: "Our World and Beyond" - We will spend the next couple weeks learning about the State of Illinois. We will look at a map of the United States and find our State of Illinois. We will learn that the state bird is a Cardinal and the state flower is the violet. Did you know the state dance of Illinois is the Square Dance? We will watch a short video and practice our own Square Dance.
Tuesday: We will learn all there is about the number 2 do IXL exploration.
We also have music with Mr. Showstead.
Wednesday: Afternoon Gym with Mrs. Beyer's class. We will continue exploring the Alphabet through a variety of Alphabet books. The children will concentrate on the letter Bb. We will practice writing it as well as think of words that begin with this letter.
Thursday: "Bushel of Books": We will read A Pocket for Corduroy by: Don Freeman. We will continue to talk about friendship. The children will make their own Corduroy Bear as well as a pocket they will have to lace together. The children will put their own name card in the pocket.
Friday: STEAM: How many buttons can you stack? The children will be given playdough and buttons. They will work to see how many buttons they can stack on top of each other.
