Peek At Our Week May 14 – May 18, 2018

Religion Objectives: 

Father’s Day – God gave us Fathers.  The children will know that God gave them fathers, appreciate what their fathers do for them and show love for their fathers.


Explore Heaven is for Real by Colton Burpo. The children have asked what heaven is like so we will explore this topic by reading and discussing this beautiful story documenting Colton’s experience in heaven. 

Our end of year celebration with our Prayer Buddies. 

Science Objectives: 

Reflections – observe and discuss properties of materials. Discuss sources of light. 

Balloon Rockets - a meaningful example of action and reaction. It’s a fairly simple concept – to make an object move one way, a force has to work in the opposite direction.  

Social Studies Objectives: 

Discuss features of our environment.  Understand animals need food. 

Literacy Objectives: 

OWL - Unit 7 – Week 3 – Reflections – What is a reflection? Concept words dull, glass, mirror, reflection, shiny and smooth.  Amazing words glide, stare, sturdy, chill scatter and silently. Use language in discussion. Respond appropriately. Make it/Break it/Change it.  Perceive sounds, match sound to letter, and segment/blend phonemes. Demonstrate understanding of words. What’s my word? Answer questions about a book.  Retell a story. Letter of the week: Zz. Recognizing and writing family names. Journaling about summer. 

Math Objectives: 

Name common shapes and their characteristics. Demonstrate that plane shapes stay the same when flipped, turned and slid.  Roll a Shape. Recognizing the difference between big and small.  Counting using QR codes and iPads. Identify missing numbers in a series.  Identify the next number. 

Afternoon Enrichment: 

Monday: The children continue their exploration of Africa and are creating their own African Village. 

Tuesday: IXL Math and ABC Alphabet.

Wednesday: Afternoon Gym and Media CAPE with Mrs. Beyer’s class. 

Thursday:  Author Study with Leo Leonni.  We will read Matthew’s Dream and experiment painting colors and shapes of joy.  Our last Mindfulness class with Miss Angie! 

Friday: STEAM – The children will build their own fantasy castles after begin inspired by the story If I Built a House by Chris Van Dusen.
