Peek At Our Week May 7 – May 11, 2018

Religion Objectives:  

Seeds – Jesus returns to His Father.  The children will learn about celebrations. The children will learn about Jesus’ Ascension and discuss what it means to be a follower of Jesus. 

Mother’s DayGod gave us mothers to love us.  The children will know that God gave them mothers.  The children will be grateful for their mothers and show love for the mothers. 

Science Objectives: 

Observe and describe shadows. Keeping track of the sun and changing shadows.  Is this healthy or not?  We will begin growing our pumpkin seeds for the preschool pumpkin patch. 

Observing capillary action and how plants drink water with carnations and colored water. 

STEM engineering activity with blocks and cups.  Surface tension experiment - how many drops of water fit on a coin? 

Social Studies Objectives: 

Discuss being courteous. Identify features of a home. 

My Big World with Clifford: I Love You Because… We will discuss all the ways we love our caregivers.  We will learn how to say “I love you” in sign language. 

Literacy Objectives: 

Unit 7 – Week 2 - Shadows Big and Small – What makes shadows change? Concept words close, follow, long, move, noon and short.  Amazing words annoy, ground, scare cast, deep and wide. Understand the meaning of the concept and amazing words. Make it: perceive sounds, match sound to letter, and blend phonemes.  Ending sounds. Count objects. Use possessive pronouns. Participate in discussion. Respond appropriately to questions about stories. Rhyming, sequencing and beginning sounds. Recognizing and writing our friends names. Letter of the week: Yy. 

Math Objectives: 

Name, describe and find shapes circles, rectangles, triangles, rhombus, ovals and squares. Attributes of shapes - What am I?  

Afternoon Enrichment: 

Monday: The children begin their exploration of Africa. 

Tuesday: IXL Math and Storyline Online.

Wednesday: Afternoon Gym and Media CAPE with Mrs. Beyer’s class. 

Thursday: Aye, Aye Matey! We continue our pirate exploration.  We will learn to talk like a pirate, make spy glasses and learn pirate manners.

Music class with Mr. Showstead and Mrs. Beyer’s class.

Friday: STEAM – The children will create a vehicle for Pigeon to drive after reading Don’t Let Pigeon Drive the Bus! by Mo Willems. Mindfulness class with Miss Angie!
