Welcome to Little Knights Preschool

 at St. Joseph Catholic School!

Called to Discipleship: Be Christ’s Light

I am excited to be a part of the St. Joseph Catholic School community as the new full day preschool teacher working with four year olds. I look forward to being a part of such a positive and caring academic community where body, mind and spirit are nurtured and developed.

Although I earned my education degree in Ohio, I have been a preschool teacher in Libertyville for the last 20 years and at St. Joseph Catholic School for the last 5 years.  I am excited to begin my 6th year at St. Joseph teaching preschool.  I love teaching preschool children and seeing the world through their eyes. I believe a warm and loving environment both encourages children to learn as well as helps them gain self-confidence. I am a strong believer in learning through play as well as hands on learning to help foster a child’s creativity and development. I look forward to a positive, loving, and wonderful year with your child!

Can popcorn dance?  Yes it does!   We added kernels to a jar with water and baki g soda.  We then added a bit of vinegar to watch the kernels dance up and down several times as the vinegar created bubbles.

In Science we learned how and why popcorn pops.   We blew up a balloon to show the water droplet inside the kernel heats up when it gets hot.  The water turns to steam and when it gets too big it pops!
During Religion we heard “The Legend of the 5 Kernals”.   The children talked about what they aren’t thankful for....family, their house, pets, the world and sunshine!
Tuesday morning Gym With Mrs. Beyer’s Class.  The children enjoyed tumbling on the large floor mats.
One of the biggest volcanoes is located in Hawaii.  Using play dough and rocks the children built a volcano.  We then added baking soda, dish soap, red paint, water, and finally vinegar to make our own lava filled explosion.
Afternoon Enrichment we travelled to Hawaii.  Hawaii is in the Pacific Ocean and is made up of 8 islands.
The children heard the story of the first Thanksgiving.  They learned the Pilgrims came from England over 400 years ago.  They sailed on the Mayflower on a voyage that took 66 days.   After many hardships the Wampanoag tribe came and taught them to grow crops and hunt.   To say thank you the Pilgrims had a feast which lasted for 3 days.
We started learning about the Letter Jj.  The children brought in some great J items:  Jessie, jingle bell, Jesus, jet, and Jeep.
Our Seeds lesson today  was Jesus cares for all creation.  The children pretended to be seed and the. Plants growing tall.  We talked about foods that grow from seeds. The children thanked God for the food we eat.
