Mrs. Shreiner is a graduate of St. Norbert College and is currently working towards a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education.  Mrs. Shreiner is beginning her fourth year of teaching, but her first year teaching fourth grade.  She has always wanted to be a teacher and is excited to be a part of the St. Joseph community. Prior to teaching 4th grade, Mrs. Shreiner taught transitional kindergarten at an early childhood center.  On a personal note, Mrs. Shreiner grew up in Wisconsin and moved to Illinois after she graduated college.  In her free time she enjoys traveling, spending time with family and friends, and being outside with her dog. She loves to read and is always looking for book recommendations for herself and her classes!

Homework:
 
Spelling: Study for the test on Friday!
Math: Finish Mid-Chapter Checkpoint 
Social Studies: We will have our first test on Wednesday September 6th. The test will be on Chapter 1, specifically on the material covered in the Chapter Review that we will do together in class.
 
Please remind students that we have gym tomorrow so they should wear their gym uniform!

Math: p. 27-28 in Go Math book

Week at a Glance: Week of August 28

Language Arts: Unit 1 / Week 2 of Reading Street: "Lewis and Clark and Me"
Concepts covered: author's purpose and questioning, imperative and exclamatory sentences
Spelling: words will focus on long a and i, they can be practiced on Spelling City, test on Friday
Writing: personal narratives 
 
Math: Continue chapter 1
Concepts covered: rounding, renaming numbers, adding/subtracting whole numbers
We will also be completing the mid chapter review. 
 
Religion: Unit 1:God, Our Creator and Father
  • Our Father in Heaven- how we can serve God, theological virtues 
  • We will also be writing personal intentions for the upcoming living rosary. 
Social Studies: Chapter 1: Geography of the United States
Concepts covered: natural, capital, and human resources, taking care of our land, chapter 1 review

Friday, August 25

Happy Friday! There is no homework this weekend, but please remind the students to wear their gym uniform on Monday.

Homework: 
 
Reading- p. 45 in Reader's and Writer's Notebook, most students finished it in class
Spelling- study for the test tomorrow!
Math- p. 15-16 in Go Math book, all students started it in class
 
IXL Math update: You should have gotten an email with your student's username and password for IXL Math. We will begin using IXL next week and students will be given time to record their username and password in their assignment notebooks on Monday.

Spelling- Study for test on Friday! I have put the link to Spelling City on here. We will be going over the basics of how to use Spelling City in class on Monday for those who have not used it. Until then, students may explore the website and play the spelling games for some fun studying! :)

Homework: 
Spelling- study for our first test on Friday. Word lists were given out today
Math- complete pages 3-4 if not done in class

Week at a Glance: Week of August 21

Language Arts: Unit 1 / Week 1 of Reading Street: "Because of Winn-Dixie"
 
Concepts covered: sequencing and summarizing, Declarative and Interrogative sentences
 
Spelling: Unit 1 / Week 1 words will be passed out on Monday and the first spelling test will be Friday.
Spelling words for practice can be found on Spelling City.
 
Writing: We will begin studying narrative writing this week. 
 
 
Math: Chapter 1: Place Value, Addition and Subtraction to 1 million
 
Concepts Covered: reading and writing numbers, comparing and ordering numbers
 
Religion: Unit 1: God our Creator and Father
  • God Creates the World- Haikus about nature, project about ecology, and creation stories
 
Social Studies: Chapter 1: Geography of the United States
 
Concepts Covered: land regions, weather and climate, people, and resources.

Friday, August 19th

 Homework for the weekend: students should create their All About Me Bag and bring them to school on Monday. This should be an easy and fun activity for them to do! 
 They received the directions and they can be found in the "Take Home" section of their accordion folder. I will also post the directions on here.
 
 
Snack: Mrs. Binkley and I have decided to allow the 4th graders to bring a daily snack because the lunch times are a little later this year. This snack must be healthy, MESS FREE, and something they can eat in about 5 minutes. They may always keep a water bottle with them during the school day so please so not pack juice or soda. 
Ideas for snack: goldfish, crackers, fruit, pretzels, and anything else NUT FREE.
Snack will begin on Monday so feel free to send your child with a snack on Monday!  
 
Gym: Our first gym day is Monday so please make sure your child is wearing their gym uniform!
