Mrs. Shreiner is a graduate of St. Norbert College and is currently working towards a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education.  Mrs. Shreiner is beginning her fourth year of teaching, but her first year teaching fourth grade.  She has always wanted to be a teacher and is excited to be a part of the St. Joseph community. Prior to teaching 4th grade, Mrs. Shreiner taught transitional kindergarten at an early childhood center.  On a personal note, Mrs. Shreiner grew up in Wisconsin and moved to Illinois after she graduated college.  In her free time she enjoys traveling, spending time with family and friends, and being outside with her dog. She loves to read and is always looking for book recommendations for herself and her classes!

Our class won the school box top competition for the month of September so we will have a dress down day on Friday to celebrate! 

Week at a Glance: Week of October 2

Reading:
Story: What Jo Did- fiction 
Concepts covered: Prefixes and Suffixes, Spelling- adding es and s, 
Spelling: words sent home Monday, test on Friday
 
Writing:
We will continue to write personal narratives this week. We will also have a Simple solutions grammar 5-8 quiz on Wednesday.
 
Math:
Finish Chapter 2- multiply with multi digit numbers, chapter review, chapter 2 test will be given on Tuesday October 10th.
Simple solutions 13-16 quiz on Thursday.
 
Social Studies:
Finish chapter 2- the cold war, civil rights movement, chapter review
The chapter 2 test will be on Friday.  
 
Religion:
Begin unit 2: Jesus, Our Lord and Savior
Session 6: Jesus, Law of Love
We will also have a class discussion on the Gospel reading for next Sunday

Reading- October book report assignment went home today, so students should begin looking for a fiction book!

Tomorrow we will be celebrating being a National Blue Ribbon School with a blue dress down day! :)

Religion- Unit 1 Test tomorrow (the test will be 8 multiple choice, 14 true or false, and 2 short answer)

Reading: Instead of a spelling test and weekly reading comprehension test, we will be having our unit 1 test on Friday. The students have a packet we are working on in class to study. 
Religion: the Unit 1 test will be taken on Thursday and will cover sessions 1-5 from our book.
 
Also, box tops for the month are due by Friday! Please bring them to school if you have any at home.

Week at a Glance: Week of September 25

Reading:
 We have our Unit 1 test on Friday. There will be no spelling this week. Instead, we will use our Reader's and Writer's Notebook to review what we have learned and study for the test.  
 
Writing:
The 1-4 grammar simple solutions quiz will be on Monday.
 
 
Math:
Continue Chapter 2- multiply using partial products, mid-chapter checkpoint, multiply with mental math, and multi-step multiplication
Simple Solutions 9-12 quiz on Tuesday
 
Social Studies:
Chapter 2- the great depression, world war I and II, the cold war, and civil rights
Simple solutions 9-12 quiz on Wednesday, 13-16 done in class 
 
Religion:
Review of Unit 1, Unit 1 quiz will be taken on Thursday.
We will also have a class discussion on the Gospel reading for next Sunday

We had an amazing experience at Feed My Starving Children this week. By working together, the fourth graders packed 42 boxes of food (25,800 servings) and had a lot of fun in the process! More pictures can be found on the Photo Album page.
