Mrs. Shreiner is a graduate of St. Norbert College and is currently working towards a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education.  Mrs. Shreiner is beginning her fourth year of teaching, but her first year teaching fourth grade.  She has always wanted to be a teacher and is excited to be a part of the St. Joseph community. Prior to teaching 4th grade, Mrs. Shreiner taught transitional kindergarten at an early childhood center.  On a personal note, Mrs. Shreiner grew up in Wisconsin and moved to Illinois after she graduated college.  In her free time she enjoys traveling, spending time with family and friends, and being outside with her dog. She loves to read and is always looking for book recommendations for herself and her classes!

Field trip tomorrow! Students must wear uniform but the gym uniform is allowed because it is typically a gym day.

Reading- September book report due this Friday! 
Field Trip- Our field trip to Feed My Starving Children is this Wednesday. Please send students with their signed permission slip by tomorrow. We will eat lunch when we return to school so both hot lunch or packed lunch works! Students are expected to wear their uniform on Wednesday. Because this is a typical gym day, they may wear their gym uniform if they would like to.

Continue Chapter 2- estimate products,  multiply using distributive property, multiply using expanded form
Simple Solutions 4-8 quiz on Monday, 9-12 finished in class this week

Chapter 2- the constitution and the civil war
Simple solutions 5-8 quiz on Wednesday, 9-12 done in class 
 
Religion:
Session 5: Celebrating Ordinary Time

Today we had a meet and greet with our preschool prayer buddies! We can't wait to spend the year growing in faith together. 

Monday, September 11

Reading: p. 77 and p. 82 in Reader's and Writer's Notebook
Spelling: new words will come home today, test on Friday
Math: Chapter 1 test tomorrow, test review packet was completed and corrected in class, students can also study online using Math IXL

The September book report is due on the 22nd! If your child finishes it early, please have them keep their poster at home until the 22nd. Thank you! :)

Week at a Glance: Week of September 11th

Reading:
Story of the week: The Horned Toad Prince
Concepts covered: long e words, author's purpose, story structure, and compound sentences
Spelling test on Friday
 
Writing:
We will continue writing our personal narratives.
 
Math:
Chapter 1 Test on Tuesday
Begin chapter 1- Multiplying by 1-digit numbers 
Simple Solutions 8-12 done in class this week
 
Social Studies:
We will begin this week talking about 9/11 and then going back into the beginning lessons of our textbook. Now that we have completed chapter 1, we will begin chapter 2 by discussing Native Americans, early European explorers, and the American Revolution. 
 
Religion:
We will have our rosary launch at the end of this week, so we will spend class time reflecting on the power of prayer. We will also discuss session 4: God Calls Us to Obey in our textbook.
