Pre-K 3

Religion -  God Made Me: I Can Hear. The children will thank God the Father for the gift of hearing. They will express an understanding that God made them. The children will express an understanding that Jesus loves them.

Language/Literacy - Enjoying listening to and talking about storybooks. Listening to and participating in songs/rhymes. 

Social Studies - Our Friends at School: Me Bags. Let’s learn about our friends at school as they share their Me Bags with the class. This weekly activity helps the children learn about each other and know that each of them are special and unique.

Science  -  All About Me: The Skin I’m In. Cocoa, olive, ivory, or bronze. Some people have skin that is light, and some people have skin that is dark. Our skin is just our covering, just like wrapping paper on a very special gift. And you can’t tell what’s inside by the color of your skin! 

Math - Colors. Color recognition/color naming. What is your favorite color? Which color do our friends like the most? Shapes: Focus on Shape of the Month - Circle.

Pre-K 4

Religion - Unit 1: God Made People - God Made My Friends. We will discuss the traits that make up a good friend. We will learn that friends help each other. We will understand that Jesus is our friend and He cares for us. The children will listen to a story about Jesus’ twelve friends.

Language/Literacy -  Learning Goals - Alphabet knowledge: Letters in your name. Begin an understanding that words can be represented in print.  Writing: writing our names. Listening comprehension: expanding word knowledge, following directions. Oral language: expand understanding of concept.

Social Studies - Welcoming new friends in the classroom. Our School Community: “Who are the workers in our school”? Children will meet the important workers in our school. They will learn about the jobs they do and visit where they work each day. Developing an understanding of our school community. 

Science - Chicka-Chicka, Boom- Boom. We love science in our room!  Preschoolers will use their observation skills to explore a coconut. They will make predictions to determine if their coconut will sink or float. 

Math -  Number & operations: counting to 1-10 items. Data analysis: sort objects and describe how groups are similar and different. Graphing: Using a pictorial representation boys/girls in our class. Shape Focus of the Month: Circle. Attributes of a Circle. Forming shapes.

STEM: An inquiry-based approach to learning that integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, Math. How many drops fit on your dot? Science: using a scientific tool. Technology: modeling. Engineering: develop early concepts through hands-on activities. Math: Geometry - flat shapes, circle, Counting - one to one correspondence.

Preschool+Plus

“How I Spent My Summer Vacation”, by author Mark Teague. Children will be involved in developing oral language & listening skills as we discuss our summer travel destinations. Accompanying photos will be used to map these locations on our classroom map. Children will be introduced to reading a map and relating it to real world objects. Mapping Our Classroom: Children will create simple maps of their classroom. Activities will help develop an understanding of direction (which way), location (where?), and representation (what a drawing stands for), spatial awareness and vocabulary (positional words). Preschoolers will be introduced to Google Maps. They will use this mapping service to view aerial photography of familiar locations, and gain an understanding of a bird’s eye view.
