PreK 3

Religion -  Unit 5 - God Made Me Special: I Can Grow. (Part 2) The children will explain that growth is part of God the Father’s plan. They will tell ways in which they are growing. Preschoolers will explain they need to eat, sleep, and exercise in order to grow. They will try to identify themselves and others as babies through photographs.

Social Studies - Facilitating relationships with others: recognizing others emotions.

Language/Literacy - Matching uppercase letters.  Letters in our name. Engaging in conversation with friends.  “What’s Happening?” The children will share ideas and experiences. They will develop spoken vocabulary, and initiate and respond to discussions. Letter Focus of the Week Uu. Bring a U item from home.

Math - Matching/naming colors. Identifying/sorting basic shapes. Shape Focus of the Month: Shamrock.  They will play Color/Shape Bingo, and identify an object by using 2 attributes, both color and shape.  

Science - Super Scientist with our own Mrs. Hein and Mrs. Aeono! Stay tuned!  

Specials - Music with Mr. Showstead, Media with Mrs. Hoglund.

PreK 4

Religion -  “God Made Weather”. The children will know that God made weather. They will understand that weather is both good and necessary. The children will thank God for weather.  

Social Studies - Scholastic - My BIG World with Clifford. “Rain Today? That’s Okay! • Science Focus: rain/spring weather • Theme Vocabulary: rain, umbrella, squirm, puddle • Skills We’re Practicing: group discussion, critical thinking, vocabulary, problem solving, selfmanagement, visual discrimination\.

Science - Weather Watchers. Let’s learn how different kinds of weather are created as we simulate various weather conditions in our classroom. Children will develop powers of observation and investigation as we explore rainbows, wind, rain, tornadoes, lightning, and wind.  Seasons: Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall.

STEAM - “How many raindrops can your cloud hold?” As the cloud fills up and gets heavier, the rain falls down! Preschoolers will count and make comparisons of how many raindrops their cloud held. They will create their own process art-inspired raindrop!

Literacy/Language

 Alphabet knowledge: produce letter sound, recognize letter names. Print awareness. Oral language. Writing: independently using upper/lowercase letters to make words. Letter Focus of the Week: Letter Uu.. Bring an item to school that begins with U.

Heggerty- Lesson Overview: Weeks 19-27

  • Students will recognize and produce words that rhyme
  • Students will hear words that begin with the same sound and generate words that begin with a specific sound.
  • Students will learn to blend two phonemes into a spoken word
  • Students will continue to practice phoneme isolation with the final and medial phonemes in spoken words.
  • Students will learn to segment a spoken work into two phonemes.
  • Students will manipulate the initial phoneme in a spoken work with adding and deleting activities
  • A new skill will be introduced: Students will learn to substitute the initial phoneme in spoken word.

Preschool+Plus

Out of this World Travelers! - “To infinity and beyond!” Preschoolers will have an out-of-this-world, month long study of Outer Space!  This intergalactic unit will introduce the children to concepts and features of space, including aspects of an astronauts job!  They will begin awareness of the Earth, Sun, and Planets, and learn facts that are unique to each. Preschoolers will be introduced to new vocabulary such as rotation, orbit, and axis. This week’s focus introduces us to the planets; facts and attributes of each.
