Welcome to Little Knights Preschool

 at St. Joseph Catholic School!

Called to Discipleship: Be Christ’s Light

I am excited to be a part of the St. Joseph Catholic School community as the new full day preschool teacher working with four year olds. I look forward to being a part of such a positive and caring academic community where body, mind and spirit are nurtured and developed.

Although I earned my education degree in Ohio, I have been a preschool teacher in Libertyville for the last 20 years and at St. Joseph Catholic School for the last 5 years.  I am excited to begin my 6th year at St. Joseph teaching preschool.  I love teaching preschool children and seeing the world through their eyes. I believe a warm and loving environment both encourages children to learn as well as helps them gain self-confidence. I am a strong believer in learning through play as well as hands on learning to help foster a child’s creativity and development. I look forward to a positive, loving, and wonderful year with your child!

In Media today, Mrs Hoglund read us a book about the Groundhog and we watched a video about groundhogs.  The boys and girls also checked out library books for the first time today!
We also put candy hearts in water, vinegar and soda to see what would happen after a period of time.  The hearts sank in all the liquid.  The vinegar and he water turned the color of the hearts and the soda dissolved the hearts!
We started out our morning with candy heart science.  Does a candy heart sink or float?   We took a vote, counted up the tally marks.  Most of us thought the heart would sink and we were correct!
Before Rest time, I read a cute book Edward brought in:  The Creepy Pair of Underwear.  All the boys and girls loved this book!
This afternoon on number day, the boys and girls did a valentines count the room to get them moving.  They did a great job!  Most found all the number and wrote them!
Our religion lesson this ,owning was God Made Flowers.  We talked about what flowers need to grow.   We are so thankful to God for making such beautiful flowers to brighten the world!   The boys and girls then colored  their own basket of beautiful flowers to bring home and give to someone special.
A challenging Write the Room.  The boys and girls looked around the room to find lower case letters.  When they found them they had to write the uppercase
letter on their sheet.
This morning the boys and girls watched to see if the groundhog would see his shadow.  He DID!   We will have 6 more weeks of winter, no surprise on this snowy day!
Catholic Schools Week Wednesday:  We celebrate our nation. We made a card for Zaia’s Dad, Captain Timothy Malham who served in the Marines.
Today we give thanks to our fabulous lunchroom parent volunteers Mrs Medina and Mrs Wentz!   The boys and girls made cards to day a special thank you to them!
After we talked about shadows and what makes a shadow, we played a game.  Each child took a turn being a groundhog hiding in his burrow.   When he perked out and saw his shadow he had to pop back in.  If he didn’t see his shadow he could get out!
Today we talked about Groundhog Day which is tomorrow.  The boys and girls watched a short video about groundhogs (also known as woodchucks).  We learned the groundhog comes out of hibernation tomorrow.  If he sees his shadow he is scared  and scurries back down his hole.  That means 6 more weeks of winter.   The boys and girls colored their groundhog and we graphed what they thought would happen.   7 friends thought the groundhog would see his shadow and 9 friends thought he would not.   Guess we will see tomorrow!
