Welcome to Little Knights Preschool

 at St. Joseph Catholic School!

Called to Discipleship: Be Christ’s Light

I am excited to be a part of the St. Joseph Catholic School community as the new full day preschool teacher working with four year olds. I look forward to being a part of such a positive and caring academic community where body, mind and spirit are nurtured and developed.

Although I earned my education degree in Ohio, I have been a preschool teacher in Libertyville for the last 20 years and at St. Joseph Catholic School for the last 5 years.  I am excited to begin my 6th year at St. Joseph teaching preschool.  I love teaching preschool children and seeing the world through their eyes. I believe a warm and loving environment both encourages children to learn as well as helps them gain self-confidence. I am a strong believer in learning through play as well as hands on learning to help foster a child’s creativity and development. I look forward to a positive, loving, and wonderful year with your child!

Nothing gets us moving like an upper and lower case letter Write the Room.  The boys and girls did a great job.  There were 20 letters around the room and most of the children found all of them!
A few more of the boys and girls came up and read our color heart poem all by themselves.  Great job!
Valentino the Bear came to see us today.  He was sad he didn’t have valentines for all his friends.  We helped him cut 10 heart valentines out of one piece of paper.  He was so happy!
This afternoon we played letter sound bingo.  The boys and girls were shown a picture, they identified the picture and then the letter sound the word began with.   To get everyone moving, the boys and girls went on letter scavenger hunt for puzzle pieces.  We then put the pieces in letter order.
The boys and girls leave learned our color heart poem.  Each day a few a the children  take turns and come up and read the poem to the class while I point to the words.  Great job!
Candy heart graphing!  The boys and girls were each given a cup of candy hearts.  They had to sort them out by color.  They then counted them and graphed by color.  They did a great job on this difficult activity.
2022 is the year of the Tiger.  The Tiger represents strength, courage and bravery. We watched a short video explaining how the Tiger saved the forests and seas from destruction.  We then did a directed drawing of a Tiger.  They did such a great job on this!
This afternoon we travelled to China!  The boys and girls learned about the Chinese New Year.  They learned that there are 12 different animals in the,Chinese zodiac.   Each year is represented by a different .They made a Chinese lantern and decorated it to celebrate the New Year!
I Live You To Pieces!  The boys and girls had to rip 3 different color paper strips and glue them inside a heart.  They all did a great job creating a beautiful valentine mosaic!  Tearing paper in small pieces is great for fine motor skill practice.
Music with Mr Showstead!  Mr Showstead got everyone up and moving.  We then learned a bit about music notes and happy (major) and sad(minor) music.  He played songs we knew in major and minor notes so we could hear the difference.
The boys and girls learned our color heart poem.  They then did a great job writing the room with valentine words.  There were 9:words and many of the boys and girls found almost all of them!  Great job!
