Welcome to Preschool at St. Joseph Catholic School!

I am so excited to be your child’s preschool teacher this year!

This is my ninth year at St. Joseph Catholic School and I am looking

forward to helping your child grow, and learn,

and have fun this year.

I have been a preschool teacher in Libertyville for over 25 years,

and am passionate about helping young children learn.

I believe children learn best with hands-on experiences and

help facilitate their many different learning styles

in a kind and nurturing setting.

We will have an amazing year together meeting new friends, sharing new

discoveries, and learning new skills everyday.

Our instructional aide, Mrs. Tina Truskowski, has much experience in the classroom

after being a aide at St. Joseph Catholic School for over 15 years!

Together, we help build positive relationships with children to help foster

growth and confidence in a caring classroom community.

We are both looking forward to sharing a wonderful year with your child.

CVC Easter Eggs is still a popular one during Choice Time! So many skills involved in this one!
Last week’s T is for Tulip math activity had preschoolers creating and extending their own patterns! The children enjoyed completing this multi-step activity today!  Can you identify our patterns! AB  ABC  AABB  AAB…
Easter Bingo 💜  We have so enjoyed our lessons and learning about the First Easter. Today we played Easter Bingo. This picture-based activity made it easy for preschoolers to explain the importance of each symbol in the story of Easter.
Science: Egg -laying Animals! Love, love, love this book by Ruth Heller! The rhyming text and colorful pics help us learn about animals that lay eggs! Birds aren’t the only ones! Preschoolers learned that the amazing word for egg-laying is oviporous! The children had fun selecting an egg, identifying the animal inside, and categorizing them by egg-laying 🙂 or not egg-laying 🙁! Such a fun lesson!
Springtime Write the Room 🌷 ☀️
1. Search the room for posted pics
2. Read the picture
3. Identify the beginning sound
4. Write the corresponding letter (upper or lower) on your recording sheet!
Super skills practice preschool!
Monday Media with Mrs, Hoglund!
We were introduced to a new author today, Shana Gorian! Her character Whiskers, the curious cat, is adorable and we love the rhyming text! Beautiful illustrations as well!
Eggs represent new life and rebirth. As preschoolers celebrate Easter this week, they engage in many egg-citing activities! Our Easter egg builders used visual discrimination and super eye hand coordination to build the matching egg on their card! Trickier than it looks!
Easel Painting Easter Eggs
The vertical surface is a super way to build wrist and hand coordination in our young learners. We love this for also developing that small muscle strength we need for coloring, and writing letters & numbers!
Easter Egg Science 💜
Love, love this one! We created Easter egg designs on wax paper with glue! Preschoolers sprinkled baking soda into the set glue. Using pipettes, they then dripped coloring mixtures of vinegar + watercolor onto their egg designs! The reaction between the vinegar and baking soda is awesome on its own, but the painting-like technique we used added a new sensory piece to this experiment! Easy and super fun to try at home!
We love Shakey Egg for both fine & gross motor movement, and building listening skills! So fun!
Easter Egg Names! Preschoolers have been busy working in their names these last few weeks! Sequencing letters, tracing, and orally spelling their name gives us practice mapping out letters in our name! It also reinforces letter recognition and letter naming! The children enjoyed making these holiday basket projects!
CVC Words Easter Style!
Choice time! Super fun practice today forming, and writing CVC words! Love their engagement and egg-citement here!
Happy 5th Birthday Jack! Mrs. Hironimus helped us celebrated with a special read of The Great Eggscape! Enjoy your special day, Jack!
