Week at a Glance January 16 – January 20, 2017

Religion Objectives: 

Seeds – Feast of the Epiphany – Mary and Joseph take care of Jesus.  The children will share experiences of giving and receiving love in their families. The children will listen to the story of Epiphany story. The children will understand that Jesus had a family and that He was a child just like them.

We will visit the church this week in preparation of attending our first all school mass next week.  We will see where we will be sitting.  We will also discuss the expectations for church behavior and learn what will happen during mass.

Science Objectives:   

How do penguins stay dry? The children will experience what it is like to take care of a penguin egg. We will grow our own snowflakes.  Identify and describe characteristics of organisms. Describe the life cycle of a pumpkin.

Literacy Objectives:

Unit 4 – Week 2 – Out in the Fields – How do machines help farmers?  Learn new concept words: field, row, seed, soil, and tractor.  Learn amazing words: crowd, fancy, pond, fair, parade and startle.  Delete onsets, letter naming, ending sounds. Our featured story is Otis. Letter review for Aa through Ll.  Matching uppercase to their lowercase letters.

Math Objectives:

Add up to 5, tell me about 5, making 5, adding fingers to make 5, story problems with 5 and adding 1 more.  Patterning.  Shapes.  Past, present and future concepts with our calendar by reversing the numbers of our date and determining the new number.

Social Studies:

Honoring Martin Luther King.  Connecting past events with present and future.  Group decision making.

Afternoon Enrichment:

Counting the Room snowflakes, color/write our names, tracing the alphabet and letter order, and math games.
