Welcome to Little Knights Preschool

 at St. Joseph Catholic School!

Called to Discipleship: Be Christ’s Light

I am excited to be a part of the St. Joseph Catholic School community as the new full day preschool teacher working with four year olds. I look forward to being a part of such a positive and caring academic community where body, mind and spirit are nurtured and developed.

Although I earned my education degree in Ohio, I have been a preschool teacher in Libertyville for the last 20 years and at St. Joseph Catholic School for the last 5 years.  I am excited to begin my 6th year at St. Joseph teaching preschool.  I love teaching preschool children and seeing the world through their eyes. I believe a warm and loving environment both encourages children to learn as well as helps them gain self-confidence. I am a strong believer in learning through play as well as hands on learning to help foster a child’s creativity and development. I look forward to a positive, loving, and wonderful year with your child!

We also started talking about spiders today.  Spiders have 8 legs and 6-8 eyes. The boys and girls made some wiggly spiders to hang in the hallway by our lockers.
Th boys and girls mixed together red and yellow to make the color orange.  They all cut, painted and put faces on their pumpkins!
TodY was ORANGE DAY!  We learned our new orange song, collected some orange items from around the room and sang a counting song about pumpkins.
Landon was our Special Person today!   He did a great job reading his friend’s names and helping with the claendar.
We ended the day by playing a game Cataleya O. brought in for us....Pin the Feathers on the Flamingo!   The game was  not as easy as we all thought it would be!
We read the book Mouse Shapes by: Ellen Stoll Walsh.   It was a fun book about a 3 mice who use different shapes to make mice to scare off a mean cat.
We were so proud of all the boys and girls!  All 4 pumpkins were scooped out and so clean inside!  We ended up with a large bag of pumpkin seeds.  Next week we will continue our study of pumpkins by looking at the Life Cycle of a pumpkin.
Some of the children loved getting there hands inside the pumpkins and feeling the gooey stringy pulp.   It did make for very slimy hands!   Other children used spoons to get the seeds out.
The boys and girls split up into small groups.  Each group had their own little pumpkin.  The boys and girls examined the outside and then took the top off and examined what they saw inside.  They all saw lots and lots of seeds and lots of stringy orange pulp.  We saw the seeds were shaped like raindrops and the pulp looked like spaghetti!
We had a fun science lesson today.  First we all gathered together on the carpet to look at a big pumpkin.  The children described what it looked like and felt like.  We even measured it!  It was 12 cubes tall.
Our religion lesson this week God Made Water.  We talked about all the ways water is so important to us.  God Made the Water and we are thankful for it.  Next lesson we will focus on the importance of water during religious services.
We went outside for morning gym with Mrs. Beyer’s class.  It was fun playing outside and getting fresh air before the raindrops came our way.
Our Seeds lesson today focused on the importance of saying THANK YOU!  We talked about why and when we should all say thank you.
