I am excited to be a part of the St. Joseph Catholic School community as the new full day preschool teacher working with four year olds. I look forward to being a part of such a positive and caring academic community where body, mind and spirit are nurtured and developed.
 
Although I earned my education degree in Ohio, I have been a preschool teacher in Libertyville for the last 15 years. I love teaching preschool children and seeing the world through their eyes. I believe a warm and loving environment both encourages children to learn as well as helps them gain self-confidence. I am a strong believer in learning through play as well as hands on learning to help foster a child’s creativity and development. I look forward to a positive, loving, and wonderful year with your child!

At the moon table we experienced Process Art!  Process Art nurtures social and emotional health, reinforcing such skills as relaxation, focus, self-esteem and emotional sharing.It helps to build such cognitive skills as comparison, prediction, planning and problem-solving.This form of art encourages the development of fine motor skills as we painted!  Process Art may also help to build the skills of verbal expression and language as the children discussed their  work.  We color mixed using red and yellow paint to make our color of the month, orange. Who knew painting with tin foil, paper towel holders, dish scrubbers, scrapers and sponges could be so fun!
At the rug, the children matched uppercase and lowercase letter.  There was a wonderful sense of accomplishment when the letters where identified and matched!
Pumpkin math at our yellow center gave the children many ways to explore.  Counting dots and matching the correct number, representing numbers in ten frames and practicing writing the numbers, and pumpkin counting puzzles.
A memory matching game was great fun for our preschoolers today because they were learning important memory skills. This one also teaches facial expression recognition, which is something else our little ones are learning at this age. 
We set up our rubber egg science experiment today.  We placed an raw egg into a jar and filled it with vinegar.  We saw almost immediately the chemical reaction (bubbles) begin as the vinegar reacted with the calcium carbonate in the egg shell.  The shell will eventually dissolve and through osmosis the vinegar will pass through the membrane of the egg causing it to become rubbery.  We cannot wait to see the results!
The blue table had been very popular this week.  The children made very cool designs by exploring patterns and shapes then recreating them with the colored glass beads.
Caroline did a fantastic job with matching her ABC's - a letter recognition activity with fine motor skills challenge.
The children played with the Little Writer iPad app today.  The children were making shapes that include motivating sounds as we complete the tracing.  There is also verbal praise when a shape, letter, number is successfully completed. So much fun as we are learning!
Our all class science experiment with ice melting was so much fun for the children and these frozen dinosaur eggs caused lots of excitement with our dinosaur fans! This was a cool sensory play experience using salt to lower the freezing point of the icy shell around our dinosaurs consequently, causing the ice to melt and hatch our dinosaurs! Sofia's was the first to hatch!
We read the story Spookley the Square Pumpkin by Joe Troinio.  It is the story of pumpkin patch where the strangest little pumpkin hatched.... Spookley the Pumpkin was different. All the other pumpkins teased him, until Spookley proved that being different can save the day!  We loved making our very own Spookley to match our wonderful uniqueness.  Come in to see it!
Our students love learning the alphabet and their letter sounds using this  engaging Alphabet Animal Jive Book. This alphabet song and actions will help the children develop phonemic awareness and letter sound knowledge the fun way!
