Happy Tuesday and welcome to the first day of April! It is wonderful to be back with the students today. Their enthusiasm and bright smiles as they entered the classroom truly made my day. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Mrs. Sullivan and Mrs. VonFeldt for their support during my absence. Their dedication ensured a smooth transition for both the students and myself, and I greatly appreciate their efforts.

Below is a brief overview of what we will be focusing on this week, along with today's assigned homework:

Math: We are going to skip to Chapter 14 Geometry. Today we focused on Lesson 1. Homework: Ch 14 L1 worksheet, all

Reading and LA: We are starting Unit 5 Week 2 this week. The students will take the reading test on Friday.

Spelling: Words with suffixes Homework: Spelling worksheet and test on Friday

Social Studies: We are going to begin exploring the Southwest region of the United States

Religion: We are going to continue focusing on Lent this week while also learning more about the Sacraments. 

Wednesday- 3/19 Happy St. Joseph's Day!

There is no homework tonight!
Reading: Your Award Winning Book Reports are due April 11
 
All are welcome to attend this FREE open house-style dinner to celebrate St. Joseph. A traditional meal of mostaccioli, salad, bread, and Italian desserts will be served. Advanced registration is most appreciated so we are sure to have enough for all. While the doors open at 5:30, dinner will be served throughout the evening until 7 p.m.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! We hope you had a great weekend and enjoy the rest of your day today. Some important reminders for this week:

-Wednesday is St. Joseph’s Day. Please join us for Mass at 8:30 as we celebrate our Patron Saint. Students are encouraged to wear their red polos on Wednesday and bring red flowers to place by the St. Joseph statue. Wednesday night is also our St. Joseph Pasta Dinner night. Please register at the parish website. 

- Spring Break is next week and there will be no School Monday, 3/24-Monday 3/31 (Teachers return on Monday, 3/31 for an Inservice day, students return on 4/1).

- If your child will be out of school this Thursday or Friday, please let Mrs. Lentino in the front office know as soon as possible.

- Because of spring break approaching and many students leaving early, there will be NO SPELLING this week, and we will NOT be having a reading test on Friday. 


Math this week: We will be wrapping up Unit 7. We will review unit 7 on Wednesday and have our test on Thursday


Spelling: No spelling list or test this week. We will be focusing on Language arts and some grammar.


Reading: We will not be reading a story this week from our text, but we will be reviewing our genres of Informational Text, Myths and Historical Fiction. Today, we also completed some close reading activities around St. Patrick and Ireland. 


Social Studies: We are working on research and informational texts about various states and then began work on completing a venn diagram comparing and contrasting a chosen state to Illinois. 


Science: Check out Ms. Arnold’s page!


Religion: Today we learned more about St. Patrick, and this week we will focus on St. Joseph as well as continue to learn about our Lenten journey. 


Homework- Monday 3/17

Math: pg 741-742 complete all but #5, due tomorrow. Test Thursday

Reading: Award winning book reports due April 11th

Spelling: NONE!


Today was Mrs. Sullivan’s last day with the 4th grade. Mrs. Von Feldt will be here Friday for their last day before Mrs. Shreiner returns on April 1st. I have had a wonderful time here in fourth grade and it has been super special getting to know all the students. They have all worked so hard and have been so flexible and polite. I know they are going to be so happy to have Mrs. Shreiner back and will finish the year strong!

Mrs. Sullivan here Thursday and Friday this week. Monday 3/17 will be my last day in 4th grade. Mrs. Von Feldt will be in here the remainder of the week and we look forward to welcoming Mrs. Shreiner back after Spring Break!


Math: Customary Units of Measurement- Today we focused on capacity and made “Gallon Men” to help us to identify different capacities. We will be learning about weight and then working on conversions throughout the week as well. 


Reading: Informational Text- Today we learned about informational text and identified specific attributes to this kind of genre and text. We will be reading the story, From Planet Earth this week so we completed the vocabulary study and looked at other examples of Informational text. Our reading test will be on Friday. 


Spelling: Latin Roots! This week students will have nightly work/practice and our test will be on Friday.


Social Studies: Students are working in small groups to complete their Native American projects. We will begin presentations this week as well.

Religion: We will continue to focus on the season of Lent as well in our readings and class work.

Monday 3/3- Homework and Reminders

Happy Readathon week! Please continue to encourage students to read and foster a love of reading! Students Readathon minute tracking sheet is in their Friday folder. It should go back and fourth all week as we will be allocating time this week in class for reading. 
 
Math: We finished a spiral math activity that we started on Friday today and continued with practicing skills we have previously learned today and students have a multiplication page in their review packet (page 2 only) to complete for homework tonight. 
 
Spelling: It's homophone week! Students need to be mindful of the word meaning and their spelling this week. For homework, please complete the Box WS. It is due tomorrow, our test will be Friday.
 
Reading: Add to your Readathon log and donate to the cause! 

Students will be allocated 30 minutes to read in classroom as well as track their minutes of reading each evening.

Friday- 2/28 and a week at a glance!

Happy last day of February! We rounded out the week with our last assessments of the trimester, a fun math task card activity, and a warm but blustery recess. Please check your child's backpack for an iReady results folder. 
 
Looking ahead to next week: It is Readathon week! We will be building in some extra reading time and students will be tracking their reading minutes on a reading log that will be going back and forth between home and school. Please see the important Readathon communication coming your way soon!
 
We have our Feed My Starving Children field trip with 3rd grade on Friday 3/7. Please make sure all permission forms have been turned in. We will be packing food from 8:45-11 and will return to school for lunch. 
 
Reading: We will finish our book report presentations and take a look at our next unit genre, myths! We will also be participating in some extra fun reading opportunities in honor of Read Across America week and our own Readathon. Reading "homework" for the week will be to curl up with a good book for a little while!
 
Math: We will be doing a few spiral activities at the beginning of the week to make sure we are retaining all that math knowledge, specifically looking at multistep word problems. Then we will dive into our next chapter: Customary Measurement. Where students will be able to identify and convert customary units of length, capacity and weight. 
 
Spelling: We will be spelling homophones, words that sound exactly the same, but are spelled differently and have different meanings. We will learn the different spellings and meaning of homophones so that we can spell them correctly in our everyday writing. Students will receive their words on Monday and we will take our test on Friday. 
 
Social Studies: Students will be working in groups to research and begin a Native American mini-project in class. 
 
Religion: Wednesday is Ash Wednesday! Please join us for Mass as we prepare for the holy season of Lent.

Monday- 2/24 Homework

Spelling Homework: Letter in a box ws due tomorrow, Test Friday
Reading: Today we learned about Historical fiction and an organization called StoryCorps which works to preserve history through oral stories. I asked the students to ask two important questions tonight around the dinner table to encourage story telling as well as listening, because it is through listening that we learn. Tomorrow, the students will begin presenting their book reports!
 
We are looking forward to a great week at school!

Friday 2/21- And a week at a glance

Happy Friday! Great job to all the students who brought in their Book Report projects on time! We cannot wait to hear your presentations next week. IF for some reason your project was not completed and in class by today or if you were absent, please bring it on Monday. 
 
Math: We will continue with Unit 10 where we will write a decimal as a fraction, write equivalent decimals and fractions, and use place value models to add decimals. 
 
Reading: We will be presenting our book reports and focusing on some historical fiction works. 
 
Spelling: We will complete unit 4 week 4, where we will focus on the prefix -in,
-im and -ir which mean "the opposite of" but do not change the base word spellings. 
 
Social Studies: We will be rounding out Black History Month with some close reading activities and important people of our nation. 
 
Science: See Ms. Arnolds Page!
 
Religion: We will be preparing for the season of Lent and looking closely at how we prepare our hearts and minds for the Lenten season through prayer, fasting and almsgiving.
 
We were FINALLY able to go outside for recess today an it was so nice to resume afternoon prayer this afternoon as a school! We hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and enjoys the warmer weather.

Friday- 2/14 Happy Valentines Day!

Happy Valentine's Day!
We hope everyone had a lovely day. Thank you very, very much to all our room parent volunteers today for a super fun Valentine's Day party. We had a great day together. 
 
Our Book Reports are due FRIDAY 2/21!
 
Reminder, there is no school on Monday 2/17 for Presidents Day.
 
Next week in math: We will begin Chapter 10 Fractions and Decimals and will learn how fractions and decimals are related.
 
In Social Studies: We will be wrapping up our unit on the Midwest and turning our attention to Unit 5, the Southwest. 
 
In Reading and Language Arts: We are going to be looking at a play and how Drama is a great story platform. we will also be working on various writing skills and continue our spelling units. Please make sure your book reports are ready to turn in and present on Friday!
