Math: We will continue to work through Chapter 12 this week. Monday we are taking a special trip up to 5th grade to visit Mrs. Schiff and see how Math will be next year. The rest of the week we will review the first three lessons from the chapter, as well as learning how to convert metric units and solve word problems involving metric units.
Objectives:
- Estimate and measure lengths within the metric system.
- Convert metric units.
- Solve multi-step word problems.
Social Studies: The students will finish presenting their dioramas to the class this week. We will also begin our last region of the United States, the Western region. During this unit we will explore various cities in the Western region and what significance they hold.
Objectives:
- Identify reasons why the West has attracted people.
- Apply map skills to locate nine important sites in the West.
- Describe the physical and human features of the West.
Religion: This week we are focusing on loving loving our family. We will read about St. Thomas More and how he was a a devoted family man. We will also explore our relationships within our families and how we follow the Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Commandments.
Objectives:
- Explain that Jesus wants us to love God the Father and one another.
- Explain that the Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Commandments help us live in good relationship with our families.
LA/Reading: This week we will continue to read Number the Stars. The students will read through chapters 7-12 this week and complete the reading packet that goes along with it.
Objective:
- Students will read Number the Stars and show their understanding of each chapter by completing a packet with questions and activities related to the story.
Spelling: Instead of spelling words during our novel study, the students will take weekly vocabulary quizzes. The words will go home at the beginning of the week and the students will complete a weekly vocabulary assignment to help prepare for the quiz at the end of the week.
Objectives:
- Students will learn and understand weekly vocabulary words.
