Peek At Our Week February 24 - February 28, 2020

Religion:  Special Lesson:  Lent.  The children will identify and name the ways we show love to others.  The children will express an understanding  that we show our love for God the Father in our deeds.  The children will express an understanding that we follow God's Son , Jesus, when we show love to others.
Seeds:  Jesus wants us to be friends.The children will explore how friends treat one another.  The children will recognize that being friends with God means they must forgive others.  The children will recognize that we are to love our friends like Jesus loves us.
 
Social Studies:  Scholastic My BIG World With Clifford: "Healthy Smiles".  Personal Hygiene:  dental health.  Phonological Awareness: rhyming words.  Vocabulary:  lips, gums, tongue, teeth.  Critical Thinking:  using background knowledge.
 
Science:  We will use our observation and predicting skills to determine what happens when hard boiled eggs are placed in water, vinegar, and coke.  The hard shell of the egg protects the soft part inside like the enamel on our teeth.  The children will learn that sugar and acid are harmful to our teeth and can dissolve the enamel.  The children will each try to brush coke stains off of a hard boiled egg.  
 
Literacy:  OWL - Unit 4 - Week 4:  "From the Farm to You":  How does food get from a farm to your house:  Learn new concept words:  apple, buy, pick, sell, tree, and truck.  Learn amazing words:  load, stand, ripe, sort, deliver, and refrigerate.  Rhyming words, uppercase and lowercase letters, letter naming, and find the letter.  Use language to participate in a discussion.  Use complete sentences and respond appropriately.  Demonstrate the understanding  of the meaning of words.  Identify the word that does not rhyme.  Answer questions about a book.  Sequencing of events.  Retell a story.  Focus letter of the week:
Qq.
 
Math:  Taking away from 5, subtizing 5, making math stories and explaining take away stories.  Past, present, future concepts with our calendar.

Art in the Box:   Friday:   Art in the Box  is a program where volunteers come in and teach a lesson about a particular artist or author/illustrator, then lead a hands on project based on that artist's work.  These lessons are tailored specifically for preschoolers adn give parents a special opportunity to help out in our classroom. 
 
Dress Down Day:  Color Wars   Friday:  Preschoolers will dress in rainbow colors.
 
Afternoon Enrichment:
 
Monday:   "Our World and Beyond"  We will travel to the country of Spain.  The children will learn where it is located and about the culture.  We will watch a short video about bullfighting.  The children will pretend to be bull fighters.  The children will also learn some words in Spanish.
 
Tuesday:   Number 18 exploration.  forming the number correctly, the letters in its name, identifying the number 18 and counting to 18.  sequencing by size - small, medium, large.

Wednesday: We will go on  letter hunt for Q's around the room...upper and lowercase. The children will put letters A - Z in letter order.  The children will make a Q is for Quilt craft.
**Gym with Mrs. Beyer's Class.
 
Thursday:  "Bushel of Books":  We will read The Wonkey Donkey by Craig Smith.  The children will also watch the music video that goes along with the book.  The children will make a list of as many words as they can that describe  someone.  We will also read What Was I scared Of?" by:  Dr. Suess.  This is a cute story about a character who is afraid of an empty pair of pants.  
 
Friday: Stem:  We will read 3 different versions of The Billy Goats Gruff.  We will compare all the stories and discuss the similarities and differences in the stories.  The children will then be given a variety of supplies to build their own bridges for the goats.
