Religion: Special Lesson: Mother’s Day: The children will express an understanding that God the Father gave them mothers. The children will show gratitude for their mothers. The children will show love for their mothers.
Literacy: Heggerty Lesson Overview Weeks 28-35 : Week 32. Students will produce words that rhyme. Students will isolate the initial sound in spoken words. Students will learn to blend three phonemes into a spoken word. Students will continue to practice phoneme isolation with final and medial(vowel) phonemes in spoken words. Students will learn to segment a spoken word into three phonemes. Students will manipulate the initial phoneme in a spoken work with adding, deleting, and substituting. Understand the meaning of words. Compare and contrast. Answer questions about a book. Retell a story. Use new speaking vocabulary in retelling. Identify appropriate writing conventions. Letter of the week Xx. Bring an Xx item from home.
Math: Counting 8 and 9 in any order. Making sets of 8 and 9. Making smaller sets for 8 and 9. Making and breaking 8 and 9. Recognizing shapes. Order. Patterning. Representing numbers 0-5 on ten frames. Focus Color: Pink.
Science: We will also take a walk outside and look for signs of Spring. The children will use their senses to explore the world around them as Spring begins.
Social Studies: Scholastic: My BIG World: CLifford: “Spring Brings Babies”: Science focus: baby animals. Theme Vocabulary: balance, bounce, bathe, buck, bark. Skills We’re Practicing: group discussion, critical thinking, vocabulary, phonological awareness.counting, handwriting.
Afternoon Enrichment:
Monday: Our World and Beyond: We will begin our exploration of the ocean. We will learn about the variety of fish and other creatures that live in the ocean.
Tuesday: We will continue to learn about letter Xx.How many words can we think of that have the letter X in them. The sound the letter X makes. Review all letters and letter sounds.
Wednesday: We will continue to review 1-20. We will count forwards and backwards. The children will identify number before and after a given numbers. 1:1 correspondence counting. Patterning AB, AAB ABC
Thursday: Bushel of Books: We will read The Grouchy Ladybug By: Eric Carle. The children will describe what makes them grouchy. If we are grouchy how does that make other people feel?Concepts of Print, Sequencing, retelling of a story.
Friday: STEAM; weather permitting we will go outside on a nature scavenger hunt. The children will collect various items and we will use these to make nature artwork.
