Week of 1/29

 

3rd Grade: (Conitinue) This week we will be learning about Las estaciones (seasons), Los Meses and ¿Qué tiempo hace? (weather). We will continue working on this subject and complete our packets and prepare for an in-class speaking presentation Que Tiempo es? Students will choose a season to draw (Dibujo del tiempo) and they will prepare to write about which season they chose and talk about the weather along with details in Spanish.

Performance Targets:

  • Students can identify the months in Spanish. 
  • Students can comprehend the question, “¿Cuál es el mes?” 
  • Students can answer the question using the phrase, “Es ____
  • Students can identify the four seasons in Spanish. 
  • Students can comprehend the question, “¿Cuál es la estación?” 
 

4th - 5th Grade:I am so proud of 4th and 5th grade for annunciating parts of the body last week.  They will be moving on to learning about clothing/La Ropa. They will identify items of clothing.

Performance Target - 

  • Students will comprehend the question, “Que lleva Juan”?
  • STudents will answer the question using the phrase, “Juan lleva___.”
  • Students will comprehend and use the phrase, “Llevo rojo en ___.”

6th- 8th Grade:

Students will begin to identify cultural practices and listen to authentic audio about school subjects. They will compare their school day with those of students in Spanish-Speaking countries.

  • This week they will listen to and read descriptions of school and schedules
  • Talk and write about classes, school activities, likes and dislikes.
  • Exchange information while explaining what classes and activities you and friends have in common.

Week of 1/22

3rd Grade:

I am very excited to meet with the kiddos on Monday as it has been a minute since I last saw them do to Christmas break and Martin Luther King Day.  This week we will begin  learning about Las estaciones (seasons), Los Meses and ¿Qué tiempo hace? 4th - 5th Grade: (Continue)

This week the students were introduced to El Cuerpo /The Body.  Students will learn in a fun activity if Simon Says/Simon Dice.. y cabeza, hombros, rodillas, pies (Head, Shoulder , Knees and Toes). 

Performance Target - With the short week we had due to the MLK Day and A Cold Day - Students will continue to complete the chapter on El Cuerp. 

  • Students identify the major body parts in Spanish (cabeza, hombros, rodillas, pies).
  • Students will complete a packet of El Cuerpo and a fun cut out. They will identify the vocabulary words and place them in the cut out.

6th- 8th Grade:

Students completed Capitulo 1B: What people are like and your personality traits. They have reviewed the use of Soy, No Soy, Es, No Es. The use between el and la, un and una.  This week, students have completed how to communicate their personalities in Spanish. They will continue to review the placement of adjectives with the Subject, Verb, Indefinite Article + Noun, Adjective.

Objectives: 

  •  Can identify vocabulary from this chapter, read and write about their personality and others. Translate adjectives by using cognates.

Week of 1/15

3rd - 5th Grade:

This week the students will begin an introduction to El Cuerpo /The Body.  Students will learn in a fun activity if Simon Says/Simon Dice.. y cabeza, hombros, rodillas, pies (Head, Shoulder , Knees and Toes). Students will also review Rockalingua and will learn vocabulary words related to el cuerpo/ the body.

Performance Target

  • Students identify the major body parts in Spanish (cabeza, hombros, rodillas, pies).
  • Students will complete a packet of El Cuerpo and a fun cut out. They will identify the vocabulary words and place them in the cut out.
  • Students will review a classic tale in Español from author Eric Carle - De la cabeza a los pies (From head to Toe).

6th- 8th Grade:

Students completed Capitulo 1B: What people are like and your personality traits. It was fun to see them communicate their personalities with their classmates. Objectives: 

  • Read and understand an article about personality traits
  • Use Visual clues to understand new words.
  • Learn how Mayan item clothing represents family and community.
  • Students will have the opportunity to review the end of the chapter with speaking and listening exercises to prepare for the quiz. Date will be announced for the week of 1/22 .

Week of 1/8/24

3rd - 5th Grade:

Happy New Year!  I am excited to welcome the students back into the classroom. This week as we settle back in from the holiday’s we will be learning about the Three Kings Day /Dia de Reyes Mago known as the Epiphany. The Epiphany marks the day that Jesus is revealed to the world. Students will learn about the story in Spanish of the three kings who followed the star to Bethlehem to visit baby Jesus. 

Students will begin to read short stories independently in class and will be given Mi libro de palabras / My word wall book where students will fill out 2 words that they do not know  from reading their short story and write them down in their book.  We will review the definition and translate the words so students can begin to build their Spanish vocabulary.

Performance Targets for this week:

  • Identify January 6th as the day that commemorates the visit of the three kings. 
  • Learn about the holiday that is celebrated in Spanish speaking countries that is connected with Christmas.
  • Identify the wise men’s gifts of gold, incense, and myrrh.
  • Review the books of “the story of the three wise men” by Tomie de Paola and Three Kings/ Day Dia de Reyes Mago by Marisa Boan.
  • Students will be given Mi libro de palabras/ My Word Wall book.  They will begin to Identify words that they do not understand. The objective is to allow the students to build their Spanish vocabulary.

 

6th- 8th Grade:

Students completed Capitulo 1B: Y tu, como eres? This week, students will begin to read and review Capitulo 1B: Como es el chico o la chica? Vocabulary words/adjetivos:  deportista, estudioso/a, atrevido/a, ordenado/a, trabjador/ora, deordenado/a, perezoso/a, graciosa/o, artistico/a.

Objectives: 

  • Write about what people are like. 
  • Describe your personality and what other people are like using the adjetivos/adjectives above.
  • Describe their personalities in Spanish and will get to work with a small group.
  • Students will listen to their partners personality descriptions which are read aloud.
  • Write a paragraph describing themselves and their partners in Spanish.
  • Students will all get a chance to present.

Week of 12/18/24

This week the students will continue to learn about Las Posadas which is a religious tradition that begins on December 16th and runs through December 24th. This tradition is celebrated in Mexico and Latin America. They will learn about the commemoration of the journey of Mary and Joseph from Nazareth to Bethlehem. Students will read about las nueve noches, las procesiónes, traditional foods prepared during this time and the festivities. They will have a fun time creating a traditional Christmas Flower.  

Students now learned the story books  of “Las Posadas” and "The legend of the Poinsettia.” 

 

Culture Objectives: Students will continue to work on their packet.

  • Students will understand and become familiar with the traditions and celebrations during Las Posadas.
  • Identify: Comidas tradicionales, celebraciones, historia de Jesucristo
  • Students will learn about la historia de la flor de nochebuena
  • Craft a traditional Christmas flower


6-8th Grade:

Students completed Que te gusta hacer? This week, students will begin to read and review Capitulo 1B: Y tu, como eres?  They will review new vocabulary words: impaciente, talentoso/a, deportista, estudioso/a, atrevido/a, ordenado/a, trabjador/ora, deordenado/a, perezoso/a, graciosa/o, artistico/a.

Objectives: 

  • They will listen to it and read descriptions of others. 
  • Talk and write about their personality traits.
  • Describe their personalities to others using vocabulary words from this chapter.
  • Identify and compare cultural perspectives on friendship.
  • Students will work on in-class speaking assignments.

5th Grade: 

As the 5th grade Students already know their days of the week in Espanol, they will prepare to review and study for the Qué tiempo hace quiz

Students can now translate the months of the year in Spanish and identify what season it is.

This week we will review in class  ¿Qué tiempo hace?

 Hace calor, hace frio, esta nublado, llueve etc.

  • Students will be given a study guide this week to review and prepare for the 
  • Quiz on Friday 12/1/23.


6th- 8th Grade:

This week students will review in class the end of capitulo 1. Students will begin to prepare for the Quiz.

  1. Students can now describe what someone likes to do and doesn’t like to do.
  2. They can identify Infinitives, Cognates and Negatives.
  • 6th Grade Quiz will be on Friday 12/1
  • 7th Grade Quiz will be on Wednesday 11/29
  • 8th Grade Quiz will be on Wednesday 11/29

Week of 11/20

 

3rd - 4th grade

As we prepare for Thanksgiving break, students will learn about “el dia de acción de gracias.” Students will identify la comida utilizado el dia de gracias. They will also create un pavo de papel  and list 5 cosas por las que ser agradecido.        

  • Students will listen to the Story about Thanksgiving and identify vocabulary.
  • Objective: to identify names of food used at Thanksgiving.

5th Grade: 

  • Will learn about “el dia de acción de gracias.
  • Students will navigate through a worksheet and will need to identify cuantas palabras puedes crear?
 

6th- 8th Grade:

  • Students will learn about El Día de Acción de Gracias
  • They will identify palabras de comida que se utiliza el día del pavo. Students will navigate through an escape room in Spanish with the theme of El Día de Acción de Gracias

Week of 11/13

 

3rd - 4th Grade:

Learning objective for this week:

Students count to 10 and provide info about how many are of a given number of objects.

Performance Targets:

Students identify the numbers 1-10 in Spanish

Students comprehend the question “Cuantos Hay”?

Students answer the questions using the phrase. “Hay____?

  • 3rd grade has begun to learn numeros 1-10
  • 4th Grade-wrapped up their beautiful Calaveras from Dia de Los Muertos. Please ask students to show you their beautiful creations.
  • 4th Grade will begin to learn los numeros from 1-10 this week.

5th Grade: 

Students already know their days of the week in Espanol, they will now begin to learn about the Months and Seasons in Spanish.

Learning Target: Students tell what month it is and tell what season it is.

8th Grade:

Learning Objectives:

  1. Listen to descriptions of what someone likes to do and doesn’t like to do.
  2. Identify Infinitives, Cognates and Negatives.
  3. Describe dances and music from the Spanish speaking world and compare them to dances they know.
  4. Compare favorite activities from Spanish-speaking teens to those of teens from the United States.

This week 3rd - 4th Grade will begin to learn los numeros from 1-10.

5th Grade: No Spanish Class on Thursday 11/9 - Field Trip

  • Mrs. Schiff's class will be taking their Numbers Quiz on Monday 11/6 for numbers 1-20 in Spanish.  
  • Ms. Bubis's class will be taking their Numbers Quiz on Wednesday 11/7 for numbers 1-20 in Spanish.  
  • The Study Guide for the Kahoot is in their Google classroom
 

6th- 8th Grade: Students will begin Capitulo 1.
