We are making rainbow chains for our bulletin board - great team work!

Top O' the morning Afternoon Enrichment! We learned about Ireland A to Z today. We learned the meanings of their flag - with the three equal stripes orange stands for Irish Protestants, green signifies Irish Catholics and white represents the hope for peace between them. We made our flag using little shamrocks to fill in a larger shamrock. This took a lot of concentration and used our fine motor skills! Afterwards we were able to color a small book of facts to share at home.

We met Lucky, our leprechaun today. He is here to teach us all about positional words this month. He will hide in the classroom and each day we will describe his location using many positional words. We learned fun facts about leprechauns too such as they are sneaky, a type of a fairy and are the bankers and shoemakers of the fairy world. This let us into wonderful discussion about what we would wish for if we caught a leprechaun. Caroline would wish for a turquoise unicorn, Hugo would wish for 100 sunny days and Jack O. would wish for a motorcycle.

It is Rr week in preschool! Look at all the words we know that begin with Rr. Thanks to all our friends who brought in things to share with the class - this is a highlight of our week!

We love our monthly visits with Mrs. Schneider! The children enjoyed dancing to Mother Hubbard blues, the Little Red Hen rap and Veggie Tales! See you next month - Cherrio it is time to go!

We always start Mondays with Media! Mrs. Hoglund read to the children Pete the Cat: Great Leprechaun Chase. They discussed the order of the colors in the rainbow and made rainbows on the iPads.

Making music with Mr. Showstead - the children enjoyed playing some percussion instruments and keeping with the beat of the music!

Centers were Seussical fun time today! We made ourselves with ten apples on top, played in our sensory bin (colored rice and Seussical pom poms, cups and shreds), practiced our rhyming skills and our letter formation with Write the Room Dr. Seuss. At the rug was nonstandard measuring with feet! It was fun to see the creative ways the children measured things around the classroom! I love learning with the children!

Lots of giggles at our blue table today as the children finished their Valentine poem activity!

Oh the places you can go! We loved listening to this story from Dr. Seuss to wrap up our week. We made hot air balloons and thought about what we want to be when we grow up.

We revisited our oobleck this morning and really could see the substance turn from a liquid to a solid right before our eyes! It is so cool! Everyone is taking home their own baggie of our oobleck! Enjoy!

Religion Objectives:

Special Seasons and Days - Lent - The children will identify ways we show love to others, know that we show our love for God in our deeds, and know that we follow Jesus when we show love to others.

Seeds: A Good Tree Grows Good Fruit - The children will recognize that every person is special, that their actions are like a tree’s good fruit and learn a prayer about the Holy Spirit.

We will go to mass with our Prayer Buddies on Wednesday for Ash Wednesday. Shamrock Trinity lesson.

Literacy Objectives:

OWL - Unit 4 – Week 4 – From the Farm to You – How does food get from a farm to your house? Learn new concept words: apple, buy, pick, sell, tree, and truck. Learn amazing words: load, stand, ripe, sort, deliver and refrigerate. Rhyming words, uppercase and lowercase letters, letter naming, and find the letter. Our featured story is Apple Farmer Annie. Use language to participate in a discussion. Use complete sentences and respond appropriately. Demonstrate the understanding of the meaning of words. Identify the word that does not rhyme. Answer questions about a book. Sequencing of events. Retell a story. Make a list of foods made with apples. Positional words with our leprechaun. Focus on letter of the week: Rr.

Math Objectives:

Taking away from 5, subitizing up to 5, making math stories and explaining take away stories. Past, present and future concepts with our calendar. Counting raindrops.

Science Objectives:

Flipping a rainbow – This is a basic demonstration of light refraction (bending of the light) and reflection. What a rainbow shines, what colors do you see? What makes a rainbow?

Social Studies:

Using language to tell about an experience; recall recent and past events. Demonstrate that all people need food and know what good-for-you foods are. What does it mean to be a consumer?

Afternoon Enrichment:

Monday: The children will begin their study of Ireland. We will learn about Ireland A to Z and make our own shamrock version of the flag.

Tuesday: IXL exploration and Bob Books app.

Wednesday: Afternoon Gym with Mrs. Beyer’s class. Number 20 exploration – forming the number correctly, the letters in its name, identifying the number 20 and counting to 20. Small group math activities.

Thursday: Author study with Dr. Seuss and Cat in the Hat rhyming.

Friday: STEAM Dr. Seuss activity – The children will explore the story of The Lorax and learn about color theory and how mixing primary colors make secondary colors in a fun Truffula Trees Craft! Music with Mr. Showstead.

We loved listening to Green Eggs and Ham and finding all the rhyming word pairs! Rhyming teaches children how language works. Rhyming helps the children notice and work with the sounds within words. Rhyming prepares the children to make predictions when they read which is an important reading skill.
