Peek at Our Week March 4 – March 8, 2019

Religion Objectives: 

Special Seasons and Days - Lent - The children will identify ways we show love to others, know that we show our love for God in our deeds, and know that we follow Jesus when we show love to others.

Seeds: A Good Tree Grows Good Fruit - The children will recognize that every person is special, that their actions are like a tree’s good fruit and learn a prayer about the Holy Spirit.

We will go to mass with our Prayer Buddies on Wednesday for Ash Wednesday. Shamrock Trinity lesson.

Literacy Objectives: 

OWL - Unit 4 – Week 4 – From the Farm to You – How does food get from a farm to your house?  Learn new concept words: apple, buy, pick, sell, tree, and truck.  Learn amazing words: load, stand, ripe, sort, deliver and refrigerate.  Rhyming words, uppercase and lowercase letters, letter naming, and find the letter. Our featured story is Apple Farmer Annie.  Use language to participate in a discussion.  Use complete sentences and respond appropriately. Demonstrate the understanding of the meaning of words.  Identify the word that does not rhyme.  Answer questions about a book. Sequencing of events. Retell a story. Make a list of foods made with apples.  Positional words with our leprechaun. Focus on letter of the week:  Rr. 

Math Objectives: 

Taking away from 5, subitizing up to 5, making math stories and explaining take away stories.  Past, present and future concepts with our calendar. Counting raindrops.

Science Objectives:

Flipping a rainbow – This is a basic demonstration of light refraction (bending of the light) and reflection.  What a rainbow shines, what colors do you see? What makes a rainbow? 

Social Studies: 

Using language to tell about an experience; recall recent and past events. Demonstrate that all people need food and know what good-for-you foods are. What does it mean to be a consumer?

Afternoon Enrichment: 

Monday: The children will begin their study of Ireland.  We will learn about Ireland A to Z and make our own shamrock version of the flag.

Tuesday: IXL exploration and Bob Books app. 

Wednesday: Afternoon Gym with Mrs. Beyer’s class.  Number 20 exploration – forming the number correctly, the letters in its name, identifying the number 20 and counting to 20.  Small group math activities.

Thursday: Author study with Dr. Seuss and Cat in the Hat rhyming.

Friday:  STEAM Dr. Seuss activity – The children will explore the story of The Lorax and learn about color theory and how mixing primary colors make secondary colors in a fun Truffula Trees Craft!   Music with Mr. Showstead.
