Peek At Our Week February 18 – February 22, 2019

Religion Objectives:  

Unit 4 – God Made Living Things – God Made Animals.   The children will know that God made the animals and wonder at the variety of animals God made.  The children will praise and thank God for animals.  The children will also learn to respect and care for animals.

 

Seeds – Jesus wants everyone to belong. The children will recognize what it means to show love and recognize that Jesus loves everyone. 

Random Acts of Kindness activity - We are going to write notes to friends around the school and secretly deliver them. 

Science Objectives: 

The children will discern between a healthy food item and a sometimes treat. 

The Penny Experiment – compare new pennies to old. Which solution cleans pennies the best? 

Literacy Objectives: 

Name it, say it alphabet.  Find the rhyming words.  Name categories of words.  Blend letter sounds into simple CVC words.  Isolating ending sound in words. 

Math Objectives: 

Ten frames. Sequencing the making of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Which one is different? Working our way through a heart maze. 

Social Studies: 

Abraham Lincoln – who was he?  What is President’s Day and why do we celebrate it? 

A visit to a dentist. Why do we brush our teeth?  Learning our phone number, an introduction. 

Scholastic: My Big World with CliffordAnimal Smiles. Science Focus: dental health.   Vocabulary Theme Words: teeth, long, flat, sharp, tiny, brush and germs. Math: recognizing numbers. 

Afternoon Enrichment: 

Monday: NO SCHOOL.  

Tuesday: IXL Math and Bob Books app.

Wednesday: Afternoon Gym with Mrs. Beyer’s class. Number 18 exploration – forming the number correctly, the letters in its name, identifying the number 18 and counting to 18. Sequencing by size - small, medium and large.

Thursday: Author Study with Tad Hills and Rocket the Dog.  We will look at how this lovable dog learns to read.  We will put some of his smart techniques to work for ourselves. 

Friday:  STEAM - The children will build their own Lincoln Memorial using classroom materials.  Music class with Mr. Showstead.
